About

I live in the Azores Portugal in semi retirement but remain a huge fan of US based team sports. I root for my childhood teams the Oakland Raiders, San Francisco Giants & Golden State Warriors, in the pros. In the College game I dig the California Golden Bears, Navy and Pacific Tigers. I also follow the fight game but I'm not a MMA fan due to the lack of safety in that forum which I witnessed firsthand.

The last two years I have been trying to give Hockey a chance again cause of the LA Kings title & excitement got to me. I also got to touch the Stanley Cup which may have had a spiritual affect on me. I've decided to cheer the Buffalo Sabers for the simple fact I think Sabers uniforms are the coolest in the NHL. Any help in this forum would be appreciated but could be ignored if deemed.

My Favorite fans next to the Bay area are from the Baltimore/Washington D.C area. Probably the most faithful & knowledgeable folks Ive ever met especially in Basketball. I miss the old Bullets teams I was a big fan of Earl Monroe, Elvin Hayes, Wes Unsled Phil Chenier & Bobby Dandridge. Man those were great teams... but I digress.

Since I'm in Portugal you might think I'm a soccer aficionado & while I root & played at Navy my knowledge of the sport is sparse so again any help might be appreciated but ignore as well.

Back for a second round of shooting my mouth off in this kind of form after Doc's were ready to stick fork in me & I think they did. So folks lets have some fun while it lasts.

Angels, fly because they take themselves lightly...

Short List

  • Favorite Athletes

Kenny Stabler, Earl "The Pearl Monroe, Joe Roth, Will "the Trill Clark, Rolondo, Joe Namath, King Richard Petty, Michel Phelps, Marvin Hagler George Blanda, Fraz Kalmer

  • Favorite Sports Teams

Oakland Raiders, San Francisco Giants, Golden State Warriors, Washington Bullets past tense, California Golden Bears, Pacific Tigers, & Navy

  • Favorite Coaches

Recent favorites Tom Cable cause he's a real life Tom Joad, Hue "I knew him as Huey in college" Jackson, Jeff Telford, John Lucas, Bob Thomason and no I don't really like Botchy but he can win. All time favorites- Tom Landry who looked like my dad, Roger Craig/Al Rosen who saved the Giants from leaving to Florida, Al Attles, Lenny Wilkes and the greats Bo & Woody

  • All-Time Sports Moment

Franz Kalmer down hill run Olympics. I can still feel it, all the young guns then either fall or played it safe till I think Bemon announced Kalmer as a has been. With gut in tow he let it hang out like nothing I've ever seen before to the point of disaster & won Namath winning SBIII was close but this moment goes to Kalmer.

  • Most Memorable Game Attended

January 1—Raiders 38-10, over Pittsburgh Steelers in AFC Playoff Game which I attend after riding up from San Diego with some fellow sailors to have a great day.

  • Most Unbreakable Sports Record

Ripkens consecutive games played tops Wilts 100 point game both remarkable records but a non-record is more amazing than both. Chuck Benaricks missing only 3 games in a 14 year career starting at Center & Linebacker (hard hitting ever down positions not WR or secondary part-timing) & excelling at both is amazing & will never be done again.

  • Ruth or Mays?

McCovey cause the previous two were jerks & I like good people to finish 1st.

  • Unitas or Montana?

Stabler who should be in the Hall of Fame. The reason he's not might be when he retired he became a color commentator for NFL & night before a game he got drunk & in a fight. The next day he show up on TV calling the game wearing an eye patch touting his Raider legacy. The truth, he was hiding a black eye from the night before. The NFL elites were not amused..

  • Jordan or Russell?

Chamberlain or did you miss the 100 point thing

  • Gretzky or Orr?

Saw Orr play & met Gretzky who wore make-up to a Dodger game & wasn't on camera... Really he did. Lets give this to Jonathan Quick a nice guy.

  • Pele or Maradona?

Pele or did you miss Maradona coaching Argentina

  • Federer or Sampras?

Met Sampras & Federer @ UCLA & not impressed with either but Borg vs McEnroe.. you got me there,

  • Tiger or Nicklaus?

I hate golf & the professionals who play it are some of the biggest jackass's in sports media.

  • Petty or Earnhardt?

The King Petty earns this one without being an ass

  • Schumacher or Senna?

Senna cause unlike Schumacher who relied on a wingman to clear the road for him Senna never played that bulls***.

  • ACC, Big 12, Big East, Big Ten, Pac-12 or SEC?

Pac 8 I mean 10 crap 12 is it really going to be 16 ?
