About

Transplanted Iowan who has lived in the Boston area for 30 of my 53 years. I'm currently back in Iowa taking care of some personal business.

I follow both the Big 12 and Big Ten but my true allegiance is to the Nebraska Cornhuskers first, Iowa Hawkeyes second. That may sound backwards but when I was a kid growing up on a big farm, I started driving heavy farm equipment around age 10. I'm from extreme northwestern Iowa, roughly half-way between Sioux Falls and Sioux City. When I was young, Iowa and Iowa St. stunk. That gets old quickly when you're a kid so I quickly became a Nebraska fan just in time to see them win their first back-to-back national titles. Does everybody remember what Bob Devaney said when they handed him the trophy? He was still very, very ticked off at having to share it the year before so this time Bob made it clear, "We've won this and we'll play anybody else we have to to keep it". And he wasn't joking. I could go on and on but that's the gist. The last few years have been an absolute nightmare. I still can't figure why Nebraska, a very conservative state, would gamble on two mediocre entities like Pedersen and Callahan. Neither who had done or has yet to do anything spectacular. If anyone knows the story on why they were hired please share it with me.

Don't blame computers for the BCS anomalies. Please read below.

Would someone please explain how Nebraska (my favorite team so I shouldn't complain) gets a 7 spot bump by beating # 6 Missouri while Iowa (my second favorite team and my birth state, long story) gets a 2 spot bump by pounding # 5 Michigan St 30 - 7. I'm a software engineer so computers to me are not this black hole where things go in and come out as some kind of anti-matter, read that scrambled. The data alone certainly wouldn't support this conclusion.

The BCS is a sham, period. Until we get a playoff system we're living in a fantasy land of the college football establishment's making.

Well, it's starting. Nebraska has jumped TCU even though each won big this week. I'm certainly not complaining but I'm sure the TCU fans are. If Nebraska beats Texas this weekend I'm betting they'll gain substantially on Boise St. If Nebraska wins the Big 12 and Boise St wins the WAC Nebraska will end up ranked over the Broncos. Then hopefully either Ohio St or Oregon stumble and the 'Huskers are off to title game. That's a lot of ifs with a lot of football left though.

Hmmm, I always thought Tuberville was a 2nd rate coach, the Baylor Baptists are giving Texas Tech a good run, last week Iowa St beat Tech badly.

Correction to my article last night; Taylor Martinez ran for 241 yds, not 260 as I wrote in the article. Got my stats crossed somewhere. Sorry.

Here's the best indicator of how good Nebraska is so far.
USC leads Washington 31 - 28 in the Coliseum late 4th.
Nebraska demolished Washington in Seattle 56 - 21

Well, a little dramatic but Oklahoma was never in serious danger against Texas. Next week Texas plays Nebraska in Lincoln.

Well well. Michigan St is up 10 pts over Wisconsin. The Badgers are over-rated.
