About

Not just a boxing fan. A boxing historian. Played with Cassius Clay while "The Greatest of All Time" was training for his fight with Sonny Liston. Friend of Alexis Arguello, Tommy Hearns, Ray Mancini, Marvin Hagler, Shane Mosely, Mike Tyson, Mills Lane, etc.

I'm not influenced by hype, public relations manipulation, smoke and mirrors or popularity. Boxing has enough problems without that nonsense. If you can take a dose of the honest truth about the sport, this is it. I will always tell it like it is.

Short List

  • Favorite Athletes

Muhammad Ali, Joe Namath, Steve Nash, Nolan Ryan, Steve Largent.

  • Favorite Sports Teams

Phoenix Suns, New York Mets, Seattle Seahawks.

  • All Time Sports Moment

Can't pick one. Sorry. But Muhammad Ali's 8th Round K.O. of George Foreman in the "Rumble in the Jungle" is definitely in contention.

  • Most Memorable Game Attended

Nolan Ryan's first start with the New York Mets.

  • Most Unbreakable Sports Record

Perhaps Rocky Marciano's undefeated record of 49-0.

  • Ruth or Mays?

    I couldn't care less.

  • Unitas or Montana?

It's unfair to both athletes to compare them across generations of the game.

  • Pele or Maradona?

The better question is: Do the majority of Americans even know who the heck they are?

  • ACC, Big 12, Big East, Big Ten, Pac-12 or SEC?

    Pac 10.

  • That De La Hoya article pretty much everything I've felt about the guy since he came onto the scene. To this day, I cannot believe how many people- many who are otherwise knowledgable fans- refuse to see him for what he really is.

Great job, same goes for the other articles as well. I look forward to reading more.

jeff, what are your thoughts on a collaboration between me and you on De La Hoya. Sort of a point/counter point thing. Maybe the title could be something like is De La Hoya among the best of his era?

I could take the yes side and you could take the no side and put it together in one article to spark some lively debate.

let me know your thoughts/ideas on this.

jeff, im the new boxing community leader. we currently dont have a lot of good boxing coverage, but I hope to change that going forward. you have a wealth of boxing knowledge and experience and I hope you continue to write.

we have a lot of great fights coming up, and none of them involve de la hoya. lol.

as always, look forward to your opinions.

well jeff let me start by saying that im happy you joined bleacher report, as the site doesnt have enough boxing coverage. On the other hand, i certainly hope you have much more to offer than Oscar hate. truth is, the causual fan only knows a handful of fighters, and oscar is one of them, hence my oscar articles. I will be posting about the upcoming cotto margarito showdown soon, so i would be curious about your thoughts of a showdown between cotto and mayweather jr.

Is there a fight, past of present, that you would like analyzed from a non-biased perspective? Let me know which one it is and I'll get right on it.
