About

My day job involves producing sports segments for CNN's World Sport show. I've been a professional (read: paid) journalist for about 10 years.
I like to write, I love football, and at some point I decided I wanted to write about football (note: I love many other sports, so I write about them as well when the mood strikes).

So that is what I'm doing here.

Feel free to send me notes, please become a fan, and by all means- follow me on Twitter (@KimNewsome). I love replying to comments and chatting with fellow (non-aggro) sports fans in general. If you engage me- I'll likely respond. The internet is no place for shyness!

Short List

  • Favorite Athletes

Abby Wambach, Joe Hart, Tim Howard, Thierry Henry, Becks (work ethic is incredible), Cesc Fabregas, Xavi, Serena Williams, Victoria Azarenka, Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer

  • Favorite Sports Teams

Arsenal FC, RBNY, FC Barcelona, Fulham, Sheffield United, Olympique Marseille, PSG (catch the problem here), Atlanta Silverbacks, USMNT, USWNT, Atlanta Falcons, all UGA athletic teams

  • Favorite Coaches

Arsene Wenger, Brian Clough, 'arry Redknapp (he's a character you have to love)

  • All-Time Sports Moment

Then World #1 golfer Luke Donald holding an umbrella over my head at the US Open so that I wouldn't muss my hair when running to the press room.

  • Most Memorable Game Attended

My first UGA away game. I was a member of the band, and we were away to South Carolina. I'd never been spat upon by an elderly man with a kindly face before. I honestly never thought we'd leave there alive.

  • Most Unbreakable Sports Record

    Anything involving the many dopers.

  • Ruth or Mays?

    Mays

  • Unitas or Montana?

    Unitas

  • Jordan or Russell?

Jordan on athleticism, Russell on personality

  • Gretzky or Orr?

    Always "The Great One"

  • Pele or Maradona?

Ooof. That's tough. Maradona though. His level of play at his prime was incredible and his body was just built for the sport. Absolutely sublime to watch.

  • Federer or Sampras?

Federer, just because he's always had a more complete game.

  • Tiger or Nicklaus?

Tiger. He'll beat Jack's record and did more to get golf away from just the old country club set, and get clubs into the hands of younger, less socioeconomically elite fans.

  • Petty or Earnhardt?

    DALE

  • Schumacher or Senna?

Ahh.... Senna. Sorry Schumi, but the repeated comebacks hurt his legacy slightly.

  • ACC, Big 12, Big East, Big Ten, Pac-12 or SEC?

SEC all day, every day during football season. Basketball? ACC or Big East.

I like your articles about Zenit St. Petersburg. The racial problem in Russia is not limited to Zenit St Petersburg. At one time, Roberto Carlos of Brazil who is associated with Anzhi Makhachkala was subjected to racist taunts.

During the match between Kryla Sovetov Samara and Anzhi Makhachkala, Roberto Carlos received a banana as well. What was done to him and other foreign players in Russia are beyond acceptable. Here are the links that provide proof.
