Ripken's accomplishment was in poor taste. All he did was surpass a man so ill he could not clap his hands together. If Cal had class, he would have tied the record, sat out a game out of tribute, gotten the asterisk, and played his next nearly 200 games. He would still be recognized as the player with the most endurance, but also a man worthy of respect in all aspects of life. Never being injured in all those seasons could be atributed to luck (not being hit with a wild shot during practice, etc.), but DiMaggio's streak was pure skill (unless he luckily got the bat on the ball?).
