I was born and raised in the heart of NASCAR racing country. Growing up in the foothills of North Carolina, my first memory of NASCAR is probably Bill Elliott winning the Winston million and thinking that was about the biggest race purse anyone would ever capture.

My dad would let me skip school twice a year and he would take me up to Wilkesboro to watch qualifying on Friday afternoons. We'd sit in the cheap seats and get sunburnt as the spring and autumn sun reflected off those metal bleachers. When money was good, we'd drive up to Martinsville and walk up fifteen minutes before the race and buy the cheapest tickets we could find. Normally on the backstretch in the sections that are covered nowadays. This is where I fell in love with the sport before I was old enough to even know what love was.

Fast forward 20 years and I'm still as big of a fan today as I was then. I'm that guy in the NASCAR commercials who is described as driving 900 miles to watch someone drive 500 miles. I go to Bristol, Martinsville, and Charlotte whenever I can get away. If I'm not at the track, it's easy to find me 36 Sundays out of the year between 1:00-6:00 PM while I'm in front of my television watching the broadcasts.

I'm a fan of Jimmie Johnson, Mark Martin, and Bill Elliott (thank my dad for those last two). I had ton of respect for Dale, Sr. and I have a great appreciation for the old days when drivers worked on farms all week and slept in their pickup trucks so they could race on Sunday. I love a good rivalry and to that, I miss Jimmy Spencer!

As for journalistic talent, I work in IT and have about 8 PCs and a stout opinion on everything I'm passionate about, so I guess I qualify to write whatever I have on my mind at any given moment. I'm sure some people will agree with me most of the time and several people will agree with me none of the time, but I welcome all feedback!

LOL it was on display at Daytona one year when I was there. So Dad snapped a picture as I stood there. They wouldn't let me touch it though, or I really would have put on a pose!
