    Hey Rikki,

    Thanks for becoming a fan. You had asked about sabermetrics, and I wanted to give you the best answer I can muster, though it's not likely to be comprehensive. So named in light of its primary proponents the Society for American Baseball Research (SABR), sabermetrics seek to create or utilize statistical tools that better represent and evaluate player performance.

    Many baseball "purists" (I hate that term, because I consider my passion for the game pretty pure, but still back the stats... maybe "fundamentalists" would be more apropos) don't like them, because they believe it suck the soul and the gut feeling out of the game. They're not always wrong. Still, these numbers can be very useful, and often quite fun in their own right.

    I like them, anyway.
