Ruth or Mays?

Ruth- his impact on his time was more dramatic than Mays. Plus there is no other player to be a dominant pitcher then convert to a more dominant hitter.

Unitas or Montana?

Montana- no one smarter has ever played QB. Plus no interceptions in 4 Super Bowl appearances.

Jordan or Russell?

Jordan- different positions but Jordan wasnot only the greatest scorer of his generation- and maybe of alltime he won multiple defensive player of the year awards. And the stat that confirms Jordan's superiority when compared with anyone is 6 chapionships and 6 Finals MVP that is unprecedented in any sport.

Gretzky or Orr?

Now this pains me to say this but I have to defer to Orr because of the position he played. Defence is the most difficukt out position in hockey to master and he excelled on both sides of the puck.Besides that one mitigating factor I'd ave them in a dead heat.

Pele or Maradona?

Pele- was a pure player who truly loved every minute that he played. And I just feel Maradona threw his greatness aside to indulge in the trappings of fame

Federer or Sampras?

Federer- no one has dominated tennis to the degree that he has in that 41/2 year regin at #1. The only reason he hasnot won at the French Open is because it has taken the greatest clay court player to stop him. And the only reason why he hasn't past Pete yet is because he is being stopped by Nadal- who I believe when it is all said and done will surpass Federer.

Tiger or Nicklaus?

I think this is a dead heat. Yes Tiger will surpass his mark in career majors, however Nicklaus not only won 18 professional majors he finished second in 19 others and that is a testament to Nicklaus' skill because he, unlike Tiger, had players pushing him. What would set Tiger apart in my mind would be winning the Grand Slam in a golf year.
