The Walking Dead Season 3 Episode 1 Premiere Or at least we would have welcomed it if Telltale bothered to submit it for classification in our fair land. It's safe to say it would have passed with flying colours, but given all the costs and risk involved - minor as it may be - they simply couldn't justify submitting their product for what, to them, seemed a small console market. We have every right to feel hard done by, but it's hard to stay mad when they do such great work.

It's readily available on Steam, though, I should stress that. It isn't banned. It takes a little finagling to get The Walking Dead on consoles, but where there's a will there's a way. And even after all the piss-farting around; I can honestly say I'm glad I bothered, because, The Walking Dead Season 3 Episode 1 Premiere much like they managed with their Back to the Future adaptation, it's Telltale in fine form.

Much like Telltale's adventures with Doc Brown and Marty, The Walking Dead will be split into five episodes, with a planned monthly release cycle. The first episode, "A New Day" introduces us to our protagonist, Lee Everett. As soon as the game opens, we get a feel for what kind of guy Lee is, as we see him being hauled toward prison in the back of a police car. He's definitely made mistakes in his past, but after a car accident that sees him freed from his shackles, he stumbles upon Clementine; a young girl who had taken The Walking Dead Season 3 Episode 1 Premiere refuge in her treehouse, high above the ground and away from the "walkers."

After Clementine saves Lee's life, he sets out on returning the favour as he sees the newly-orphaned girl as path to redemption; to right the wrongs he has done. The care he shows for Clementine, and for people in general, makes Lee a really empathetic character and it makes it easy to look past the skeletons in his closet; not unlike John Marston of The Walking Dead Season 3 Episode 1 Premiere Red Dead, whose want for a clean slate is now gaming folklore.

Unlike other games based on the brain-hungry undead, The Walking Dead tells a more human tale, focusing most on its characters and their plight. Being able to identify with their emotions and stories sets this game on a bar above of other, more action-oriented The Walking Dead Season 3 Episode 1 Premiere games like Dead Island or Dead Rising in terms of narrative.

Some characters from the original comic-book series, including Glenn and Hershel, make brief in-game appearances before dashing off, presumably to fulfill their activities already adorned on the pages of Kirkman's books. The fact that Telltale's journey runs concurrently with the comic makes it even more tantalizing; if you're a big fan of the The Walking Dead Season 3 Episode 1 Premiere series, it's not hard to be excited by the possible cameos we'll see in future episodes.

Being a Telltale game, it's not at all hard to guess how it plays. You navigate Lee around the screen as you're able to interact with any number of objects - some useful, others not so much - and people. There's the odd puzzle, but they're usually simple to navigate through and offer no real challenge. The real difficulty comes with the choices and The Walking Dead Season 3 Episode 1 Premiere morality system Telltale has put in place. At certain times in proceedings, Lee is dealt a really shitty hand.

Early on, the undead make a raid on an undermanned farm, forcing themselves onto two of the group. In a pinch, Lee must choose who he helps and, as a result, who he effectively dooms. A very effective ticking clock further places stress on the situation as you urgently soul-search for the answer. It's gripping stuff to suddenly find Lee in the The Walking Dead Season 3 Episode 1 Premiere middle of a crisis, being looked to for an answer. And being The Walking Dead, the shit you're knee-deep in only tends to get thicker as you trudge on.

Just like these tense decision-driven cinematics, the infrequent action sequences are handled, as expected, through quick-time events. Don't let the thought get you down, as unlike many games to come before, they're handled pretty darn well. In lieu of a simplistic button-mashing exercise, you're forced to navigate your thumbstick in the general direction of the on-screen target before instigating the button-press. Much like the aforementioned timeouts, it adds a certain tension having to fumble around in the heat of The Walking Dead Season 3 Episode 1 Premiere it all. In the scenes following your car accident in the early goings, Lee finds himself patting around on the ground for a loose shotgun shell as he, in a shaken state, tries to avoid being a meal for the walker dragging itself toward him on its belly. It's a horrific recipe for sweaty, nervous palms.

Being inspired by Kirkman's comics, Telltale has gone with a very fitting cel-shading overcoat. Though it's not all bright colours, rainbows and unicorns with this comic-book like aesthetic, things can get grizzly in a hurry. Clementine's rescue of Lee sees her gifting him with a claw-hammer which he doesn't hesitate in using on the walker that The Walking Dead Season 3 Episode 1 Premiere thinks his brains are on the lunch menu. What follows is one of the most out-of-nowhere, gruesome kill scenes I've seen in sometime. My jaw was on the floor, you guys, not unlike countless pieces of zombie cranium. Man, claw-hammers sure can collapse an eye socket, can't they?
