Alex's Bio

I am 24 years old, I live in Northern Virginia, and in real life I am a newspaper reporter. I graduated from Virginia Tech with a degree in English, and I was a substitute teacher for a few months before becoming a writer.

I am somewhat of an oddity as a sports fan. I love the Boston Red Sox and I hate the New York Yankees. I love the New York Giants and I hate the Dallas Cowboys. I love the Dallas Mavericks and I hate the San Antonio Spurs, the Los Angeles Lakers, the Golden State Warriors, and the Miami Heat.

My favorite players are Dirk Nowitzki, Kevin Youkilis and Eli Manning in approximately that order. I think Alex Rodriguez, Tony Romo and Dwyane Wade should burn in hell. I don't like Tim Duncan, but goddamit I respect him.

I am not a fair-weather fan. I liked the Red Sox pre-2004 (don't believe me, ask me where I was or how many things I broke after the 2003 ALCS), the Giants pre-Super Bowl XLII, and the Mavs post-2006, 2007 and 2008 (do I sound like a bitter Mavs fan yet?).

ESPN pisses me off to no end. They love to fan the flames of controversy, and they will give as much airtime as possible anything that is controversial, while at the same time ignoring things that true sports fans enjoy.

I like sports because they allow a man to become a legend without having to kill or be killed.

I also enjoy music, comedy, and fine cigars.

My writings on things other than sports can be found at: http://www.associatedcontent.com/user/49172/alex_mcveigh.html

All other details of my life are quite inconsequential.

  13. Why Dwyane Wade? Sorry, as a Chicago kid, I have to know. I loved D-Wade when he was at Marquette, and I think he's one of the more decent NBA players. At least, he's no Gilbert Arenas.
