Matthew's Bio

One could say that Matt is a Canadian who grew up in the wrong place.

Hailing from San Jose, Calif., Matt was exposed to the sport of hockey at a young age. He spent many an hour deciphering the scrambled images of Sharks games broadcasted by SportsChannel because his parents didn't pay to have them unscrambled. Eventually KICU came, giving Matt his first detailed look at the sport of hockey. It was the beginning of a beautiful relationship.

Matt has been a die-hard Sharks fanatic for nearly 15 years, almost 3/4 of his life. While his heart (and body) reside in sunny northern California, Section 202, Row 7, Seat 20, he is an avid fan of all things hockey and follows the NHL closely. He currently attends Santa Clara University, where he majors in Communication with a focus on print journalism and writes for the prestigious weekly school newspaper, The Santa Clara.

Favorite Sports Teams

San Jose Sharks, San Jose Earthquakes, Oakland Raiders

All Time Sports Moment

The Sharks two minute 5-on-3 kill vs. Edmonton in the 2006 Stanley Cup Playoffs. The feeling in the arena as Scott Hannan willed the puck down the ice to finish the kill is the most amazing thing I have ever experienced.

Most Memorable Game Attended

San Jose vs. St. Louis - Game 1 of the 2004 Western Quarterfinals. A scoreless tie into overtime, Niko Dimitrakos took a feed from Vinny Damphousse and put it top-shelf to send the Tank into its patented frenzy state. Walking back to the car amongst the pandemonium in the streets made me feel like that was to be the year. It almost was.

Most Unbreakable Sports Record

Gretzky's overall point record. The current NHL game doesn't allow for a player to dominate like he did. But, then again, perhaps there is a talent out there who can.

Ruth or Mays?

I'm from the Bay Area. Mays.

Unitas or Montana?

Montana. See above.

Pele or Maradona?

Maradona, but only because he can claim he possesses the "hand of God"

Jordan or Gretzky?

Gretzky, of course.

Pac 10, Big 12, Big 10, SEC, ACC, or Big East?

Pac 10!
