Mike's Bio
I've been skating since I was around 3, started playing hockey around 6... played ever since from house to travel to AAA. In the thumb of Michigan and in Canada. I love the sport it to me is the best sport combining a learned talent, skating, with the fastest paced games with full contact.
I grew up idolizing Nick Lidstrom, he embodied exactly what I wanted to be in hockey, therefore I played defense most of my hockey career until recently because I have such an offensive mindset, so i played forward my last three organized teams i played for.
Also Alexander Ovechkin is the most exciting player in the NHL by far. I love to watch him play he's sick.. I can agree Crosby is a good player but he doesn't come close to Ovechkin. Crosby is a much better playmaker but I am way too jealous that hes 2 days younger than I am, doin work in the NHL.
Notably my last season my senior year of high school i played with the Blue Water Wild out of Pt. Huron... the most exciting year of hockey in my life we Won 8/11 tournaments and in which we didn't win we were runner up. We won regionals and then states in a huge semi-final upset on St. Clair Shores who at the time were 3-0-1 against us. We then went on to nationals and were the only team in my eyes.. with an exception... a real team. We were the youngest team in the tournament. The team who won was South Boston Shamrocks, who was comprised of several players from the private prep schools such as Avon, etc... you could find them after that year attending D1 private and Public universities playing hockey there... they were basically a team put together probably played the required 10 games together or whatever and then just walked over the competition. One kid on their team was younger than I was. and he was they guy they sent to the skills competition. Another team like this was Mid-Fairfield.. but just not as good I guess.
The only other legit team there that I remember was a team we beat in our international Silver Stick tournament. The Chiefs from Chicago area I believe. thankfully they beat us out of nationals with a winning goal from near the red/blue line outside of our zone.. a little bouncing shot on goal nearly like the one Lidstrom just scored on Nashville this past series. After they went on to play South Boston and lost 11-3 or something.
As for now i just play in the 18up League here at MSU and then IM with some friends from school.
I attend Michigan State University, General Business Admin. - Prelaw major. About to be a Senior in Fall '08.
I also enjoy golf... go figure. duck and pheasant hunting, skiing/snowboarding, partying and just kickin it with my friends.
