Barney's Bio

Hi!

I'm Barney Corkhill, the Liverpool Community Leader for Bleacher Report! Obviously that means I'm a Liverpool fan and I look forward to celebrating the league title finally coming home this season! Other than football, I like playing and watching rugby, cricket, tennis and any other sports really!

In terms of music, The Beatles are by far the greatest band of all time (fact), and it just so happens that they come from the greatest city of all time as well (fact)! I play drums and can play a lot of the Beatles songs on the piano! Anyway, this is a sports site not a music site so I'll stop there! My favourite film is Green Street - It was good enough to almost turn me into a West Ham fan for an hour and it certainly had "I'm forever blowing bubbles" in my head rather than "You'll Never Walk Alone" for the next few days! Anyway this isn't a film site either so moving on...

I'm 18 and live in England. Despite being born in the '90s I really wish I was growing up in the '60s so I could experience most of the sporting greats (as well as the Beatles!). Unfortunately I wasn't to be so lucky, but I do try and look into sport's past a lot. In many ways I prefer to it today's sport, even though I wasn't even alive when it happened!

I joined B/R over a year ago and it has provided me with a great base for my dream career, helping me build up a portfolio and hone my writing skills! I have many a series on here, some of which I will be looking to resurrect soon! The ones I particularly like are the "Greatest Ever" series, which always provides good debate, the "A Tribute To..." series, which looks at the greats of various sports, and Barney Corkhill's Unofficial World Club Championships (current holders being Chelsea).

If anyone needs to contact me just post a note on my bulletin board or email me at barneycorkhill@hotmail.co.uk and I'll get back to you!

Most importantly of all, I hope you enjoy my articles! If you do, rate them, leave a comment, and, if they're truly good enough give 'em a POTD vote! It would make me a very happy Barney! Go on spread the joy! If you like my work enough then by all means become a fan!

Finally, thanks to each and every person who has ever read, commented, or picked my article (yep, that means you!), and an extra special thanks to the 165 and counting people who have become my fans. It honestly means a lot!

Now, in the words of Ringo Starr: Peace and Love!

Barney Writes About

The Short List What Barney thinks about sport's most pressing questions

  • Favorite Athletes

Socrates has got to be my favourite footballer, closely follwed by Steve McManaman, God (Robbie Fowler), Steven Gerrard, Fernando Torres, Jamie Carragher, Ryan Giggs, Roberto Carlos, Micheal Essien and Zizou. In terms of rugby it's Jason Leonard, Sebastian Chabal, Jonah Lomu and Lesley Vainikolo. My most disliked players include most other Manchester United players, Didier Drogba, Frank Lampard, John Terry, John Obi Mikel and Cristiano Ronaldo. None of these are as disliked by me as Liam Ridgewell though. Don't ask me why, because I don't know, but I just have this irrational hatred for the man!

  • Favorite Sports Teams

    Liverpool and England

  • Favorite Coaches

Bill Shankly, Bob Paisley, Joe Fagan, Gerard Houllier, Rafa Benitez, Sir Alf Ramsey, Kenny Dalglish and Sir Clive Woodward!

  • All Time Sports Moment

One word: Istanbul. 2005 Champions League Final Liverpool 3-3 Milan. Magical! Other than that, the 2001 treble, England's 2003 Rugby World Cup win, and Usain Bolt 100m at the Beijing Olympics. It left me absolutely speechless!

  • Most Memorable Game Attended

England Rugby v Barbarians - Jason Leonard scored only his second ever try OR Singapore v Australia - the last ever match at the Kalang Stadium. Good stuff and got to play footy on the pitch afterwards!

  • Most Unbreakable Sports Record

Robbie Fowler - hattrick within five minutes! Usain Bolt's 100m when he decides to sprint instead of jogging.

  • Ruth or Mays?

Babe Ruth - simply the greatest!

  • Jordan or Russell?

    Jordan by a mile!

  • Pele or Maradona?

Pele! Maradona was a flawed genius, Pele was just a genius!

  • Federer or Sampras?

As of the 5th of July 2009 - Roger Federer!

  • Tiger or Nicklaus?

Nicklaus again for now. Tiger will take over!

  • Schumacher or Senna?

    Schumacher

  3. Hey Barney, how's it going? It's been a while, hasn't it?

Hey Barney, long time no talk :)

As a Liverpool fan, do you think that takeovers by private owners are a good thing? Since your club was bought by Gillett and Hicks, I was wondering what your opinion on the matter is.

If you think it's a bad idea, maybe you should give one of my new articles a read.

    http://bleacherreport.com/articles/287735-germans-say-no-to-takeovers-in-football

The Germans won't have any takeovers in their leagues and they've actually found a decent way to prevent this from happening.

  4. Hey Barney, here is a World Football roundtable on the upcoming UEFA World Cup qualifying playoff.

    Hope you enjoy!

  5. You liverpool fans are disgusting creatures.

  6. Ngog just pulled an Eduardo!

  7. I've finally got around to writing something about the Tiger's current plight. Take a look for me and see what you think.

    http://bleacherreport.com/articles/284692-hull-city-and-an-uncertain-future

  8. How did Liverpool do today? Surely they're back on track after beating United, right?

  9. HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAA.

Even though you weren't in this war from the beggining, thanks for taking a dump all over Austin's BB.

I was rooting for you guys (naturally).

All in all, a very good win.

  10. Fun Fact of the Day: Liverpool beat United twice last season and United won their 18th EPL title.

  11. I'm looking forward to your match review!

  12. Good luck tomorrow. Hopefully Owen will keep the scoreboard looking respectable for you all.
