I'm one of those people who chose my teams based on players.
Growing up I was a big fan of Byron Scott, because of his baseline jumper, so that led me to being a Lakers fan. Plus it didn't hurt that they were awesome during the 80's.
In baseball, I loved going to A's games and watching Rickey Henderson, Tony Armas, and Dwayne Murphy. Then, when I started playing little league I turned my sights onto one of the greatest hitters of all-time, Tony Gwynn. These days, I support both the A's and the Padres.
Football is a long story, so I'll skip the details and jump into my teams. I'm a big fan of the Seahawks and Packers. It used to be more convenient when the Hawks were still part of the AFC West. Now, I have two NFC teams.
Last, but not least is hockey. I've lived in San Jose my whole life and the Sharks are the only major team to represent our city (I'm not a big fan of soccer and I don't consider arena football a major sport, although I loved going to Sabercats games.).
Now that Nate Robinson has been reduced to riding the pine, what do you think is next?
