About Drew »

I am a native Nashvillian. I am a lover of many things; the wide world of sports helps to temper my affair with great literature and scholarship. I also enjoy fine beer, board games, bar trivia, and state/national parks.

The Shortlist »

  • Favorite Athletes

Derrick Thomas, Ozzie Newsome, Jay Barker, Shaun Alexander, Roger Staubach, Mark Grace, Steve Sullivan, Roger Federer, Martina Navratilova

  • Favorite Sports Teams

Alabama Crimson Tide, Chicago Cubs, Nashville Predators, Tennessee Titans, Les Bleus

  • Favorite Coaches

The Bear, Tom Landry, John Wooden, Red Aeurbach, Barry Trotz

  • All Time Sports Moment

    Jesse Owens in Berlin, 1936

  • Most Memorable Game Attended

  • Most Unbreakable Sports Record

Either Johnny Unitas' 47 consecutive games with a TD pass or Cy Young's 511 career wins...can't decide.

  • Ruth or Mays?

    Mays -- all around player

  • Unitas or Montana?

Unitas -- defined the modern quarterback

  • Jordan or Russell?

Russell. Jordan was a hell of a pure athlete but he played against poor competition. Also, since everyone seems to value titles, Russell has 11 championship rings. Jordan: 6. Now, I realize I didn't apply this logic to Unitas/Montana, but I was more interested in the position of QB writ large. Here we are contrasting a defensive center and a shooting guard.

  • Gretzky or Orr?

Can't bet against "The Great One"

  • Pele or Maradona?

    Pele

  • Federer or Sampras?

Rod Laver -- Twice he won all four majors in a year. Federer will be my vote 10 years from now

  • Tiger or Nicklaus?

Nicklaus...ask again in five years or so.

  • Petty or Earnhardt?

Petty, but car racing is silly.

  • Schumacher or Senna?

    See above.

  • Pac 10, Big 12, Big 10, SEC, ACC, or Big East?

There is an ebb and flow here, like the Tide. I am partial to the SEC of course, but other conferences have been dominant at various times in various sports.

    Hey,

Following up yesterday's great debate is the one I've been waiting to write for a long time, and the one I think may be the best debate yet and a must-read for any football fan! Should video technology be introduced into football? Would doing so take away from the 'magic' that makes the game so great? And would it help or hinder the referees? Have your say in the Great Debate!
