About

Since learning to walk by using a badminton racket as a crude crutch before I could maintain my own balance, I knew sports would be a big part of my everyday life.

I covered my bedroom wall with an almost life-size poster of the original Olympic basketball Dream Team. I jumped higher than the Raiders defensive line when Adam Vinatieri's kick soared past them to complete a seemingly impossible comeback in what became known as the Snow Bowl. And I stood speechless as I watched Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry jump on J-S Giguere as the final seconds ticked off the clock to make Anaheim the first-ever West Coast Stanley Cup Champions.

In fact, the only thing I am just as passionate about as sports is writing, which is why I was naturally drawn to the Bleacher Report community. Where else can you meet such a wide variety of fans with the same level of enthusiasm and just as much desire for the world to know exactly what drives their passion (I know some of my friends will be happy I found a new outlet for my rants and ravings)?

I hope to stir up some discussion with some fresh ideas and analysis, especially in the often under-the-radar realm of hockey. I also wouldn't mind dropping the proverbial gloves over hot topics every now and then, as long as it's done in a constructive manner, of course.

Short List

  • Favorite Athletes

Jean-Sebastien Giguere, Chris Drury, Teemu Selanne, Jarome Iginla, Petr Sykora, Todd Marchant, Sergei Gonchar, Sidney Crosby, Wes Welker, Tom Brady, Kevin Faulk, Eli Manning, Jeff Feagles, Garret Anderson, Vladimir Guerrero, Bobby Abreu, David Ortiz (as far as active players)

  • Favorite Sports Teams

Anaheim Ducks, New York Rangers, Calgary Flames, Pittsburgh Penguins, New England Patriots, New York Giants, Anaheim Angels of Orange County =)

  • Favorite Coaches

Randy Carlyle, Tom Renney, Ron Wilson, Dan Bylsma, John Tortorella, Larry Robinson, and - love him or loathe him - Bill Belichick

  • All-Time Sports Moment

Besides any of my favorite teams winning it all, the 1980 Miracle on Ice (for reasons too numerous to list here)

  • Most Memorable Game Attended

April 18, 2008, Rangers vs. Devils, Round 1 of the 2008 SC Playoffs. After a humiliating 2006 QF sweep in which the Devils outscored the Rangers 17-4, the Blueshirts exacted revenge on their long-time rivals by eliminating NJ in its first-ever playoff series in Prudential Center. Revenge is sweet.

  • Most Unbreakable Sports Record

Continuing with the theme of my obvious NHL/Ducks bias, Teemu Selanne's 76 goals as a rookie (although he did do it as a Winnipeg Jet)

  • Ruth or Mays?

While I'm not much of a Yankee fan, I have to pick the great Bambino here, but only because I'm more familiar with him. Both men are very likable and I have a bit of a soft spot for the Mets, but Babe ushered in an entire era of more exciting baseball.

  • Unitas or Montana?

Again mostly out of familiarity, I've gotta go with Joe, who is not only the first QB I remember hearing about as a kid, but also happens to share my June 11 birthday. His 4-for-4 record in Super Bowls doesn't hurt, either.

  • Jordan or Russell?

I know far less about Russell than I do about Mays or Unitas, but even if I didn't, how could you not pick #23 in almost any Jordan vs. so-and-so matchup (well, unless we're talking in terms of baseball careers)? I mean, c'mon - the man is a freakin' logo!

  • Gretzky or Orr?

OK, I'm starting to detect an old school vs. new school pattern, so once again I'll have to go with the more modern player. Gretzky pretty much IS the NHL record book, though Bobby's career was cut way too short by injuries to make a fair comparison in regards to stats. Much like MJ, the Great One beats almost all athletes in my book, anyway.

    Hey Jason,

For some reason this got knocked out of the Editor's Queue before it was read, would you mind giving it a look?

    Thanks for the edits Jason.

Great catch—I was going off the wikipedia entry, which featured no apostrophe, but you are obviously correct based on the BBWAA's website.

Much appreciate sir, especially since it was in the title (ouch).
