About Matt »

I'm a lifelong Tiger fan who's been writing about the Tigers since the beginning - yes, the beginning - of the 2006 season. For the past three seasons, I've been focusing on the Tigers' minor league system at my blog, Take 75 North, but am looking forward to chipping in some thoughts about the big boys.

When I have to pretend I'm a grown up, I live in Toledo with my lovely wife and make a living as a city planner.

The Shortlist »

  • Favorite Athletes

Curtis Granderson, Barry Sanders, Joe Dumars

  • Favorite Sports Teams

Detroit Tigers...I'm told there are others but I don't really care

  • Favorite Coaches

    Chuck Daly

  • All Time Sports Moment

It's got to be Magglio Ordonez's home run in the 2006 ALCS.

  • Most Memorable Game Attended

That's a close one between clinching the Yankees series in 2006 and the last game at Tiger Stadium.

  • Most Unbreakable Sports Record

Cy Young's wins. It's ridiculous because the game has changed so much, but nobody's touching that.

  • Ruth or Mays?

    Ruth

  • Unitas or Montana?

    Montana

  • Jordan or Russell?

    Jordan

  • Gretzky or Orr?

    Gretzky

  • Pele or Maradona?

    Who?

  • Federer or Sampras?

    Federer

  • Tiger or Nicklaus?

    Tiger

  • Petty or Earnhardt?

Aren't there like three of each?

  • Schumacher or Senna?

Honestly don't know who this is referring to.

  • Pac 10, Big 12, Big 10, SEC, ACC, or Big East?

I'm not a fan of the SEC; they really dropped the ball in the credit crisis.

Thanks to BR, I recently interviewed Knicks legend Earl Monroe. Here is what he had to say on a variety of topics, including the current state of the Knicks!

Hey Matt,

I'm writing articles about the MLB 9s and thought you'd be interested in the Detroit Tigers' piece.

Any feedback or thoughts would be appreciated.

Former MLB player Eric Karros called my article into question on Colin Cowherd's ESPN Radio show yesterday.

He challenged me for a re-do: but here's my response.

I assure you, it's not just a ridiculous personal attack, but it shows that Karros was off-base with his statements.
