Thanks for the sympathy - you have no idea!
What I would suggest to you is to try to get your work in as many different places as possible. Because I'm at University, it's easy to get involved in lots of different aspects of the media centre, be it print or broadcast. I don't know what your situation is at the moment, but if you play at a high level you could try to get involved in match reports or news for whatever team you play for?
Put your name out and try to get internships at as many different places as you can. Also, build a portfolio of all the work you've done, including Bleacher Report.
