About John »

Credentials: Adjunct Lecturer, University of Florida, 2008-2009
Masters Degree in Communication, Michigan State University, 2007

Personal: Attended every Florida Gators home game during the 2008 championship season.

Favorite Game Attended: There are a lot but I would have to say the Florida (UF) vs. Florida State (FSU) 2005 matchup in Gainesville. It's the greatest rivalry in college football but the 2005 meeting was the beginning of Urban Meyer's dominance over Bobby Bowden.

Favorite Moment: When the Gators won the 2006 NCAA Championship in basketball. After all the letdowns in basketball, it was like the program had finally arrived when they destroyed UCLA to cut down the nets.

Hobbies: sports, going to the beach

Hi John Cyrus here, I just wanted to get your opinion on one of my theories; It has to do with your excellent article on the 'Pussifacation of sports',I always felt that the most drastic changes occured when European players started arriving in force to the NBA in the late 90s,it was right around that time that the NBA finnaly relented and allowed teams to use Zone defence, a tactic heavily used by European teams, it was also around that same time that the NBA started cracking down on practicly any contact with offensive players, again,if you remember it was right around that time that players like Dirk, Peja & Hedo started gaining prominence & while the NBA always had extremely talented European talent such as Toni Kukoc,Vlade Divac, Arvidas Sabonis & Detlef Schrempf who always impressed with their all round abilities and easy ball handling some of them (particularly guys like Toni)always seemed to struggle with the physical side of the NBA.
Well that was my theory please feel free to let me know what you think of it as I would enjoy getting your opinion.
    Take it easy man.Cyrus.

Here's my week two recap of the Lions' (surprisingly winnable) loss to the Minnesota Vikings.
