About

Huh? I am not a bum. I'm a jerk. I once had wealth, power, and the love of a beautiful woman. Now I only have two things: my friends and... uh... my thermos. Huh? My story? Okay. It was never easy for me. I was born a poor black child. I remember the days, sittin' on the porch with my family, singin' and dancin' down in Mississippi.

While some of you might know this as the Jerk with Steve Martin, it can also be doctored to tell my story. I am a thirtysomething teacher and speech consultant. Like everyone else, I have a sports jones and saw Bleacher Report as a place to stimulate conversations about the topics that I am thinking about.

Like a lot of writers here, I played all the sports in high school and played football and water polo in college. I graduated from Weber State University in Ogden,Utah with a degree in Speech Communication. I have certification in Education and Online Teaching and Learning in addition to High School and Middle School Social Studies, with a Masters (about to be wrapped up) in Ed.

Basketball is my love and Football is my mistress, but I treat sports like Tupac, so I get around. You name it and I will watch it long enough to form an opinion about it...Finally, if you have an opinion, come with facts, because you know I will...

The Birthday in my profile is symbolic of 9/11, a day of infamy and a day to remember....

Short List

  • Favorite Athletes

The ones who persevere through insurmountable odds to win/be successful

  • Favorite Sports Teams

Dallas Cowboys, Oakland Raiders, Los Angeles Lakers, California Golden Bears, and auditioning for a new baseball team (thinking the Nationals...) since the A's tried to leave to Fremont

  • Favorite Coaches

Tom Landry, Jimmie Johnson, John Madden, Pat Summitt (cuz all she does is win...) Phil Jackson

  • All Time Sports Moment

The Play...and The Catch. Both of these moments happened in 1982 and one crushed my hopes and dreams (The Catch) and the other made me jump up and down and go crazy as that same 10 year old kid...

  • Most Memorable Game Attended

Golden State Warriors vs. Dallas Mavericks playoff series. Went to all the home games in Oakland and it was an incredible atmosphere

  • Most Unbreakable Sports Record

Cy Young. Who is going to get that many wins? With the way pitchers are babied, that will never be reached...

  • Ruth or Mays?

Mays. Props for Ruth hitting during a dead ball period, but you were not playing with all the possible players at the time. Yes, I know you pitched and were good at it, but Mays as a defender trivialized your pitching exploits. BTW, he hit a lot of HR's too...

  • Unitas or Montana?

Montana. I hated him and his teams, but you can't argue that he was a cool character. Unitas was the man too, and untied his teams, but his career didn't have as much shine to it...

  • Jordan or Russell?

Jordan. With apologies to Shaq, the Most Dominant Ever... Russell was a winner on those Celtic teams, but individually, give me Jordan

  • Gretzky or Orr?

    99 all the time...

  • Pele or Maradona?

If you are into the party scene and drugs, then go with Diego. But, I loved Pele in Victory and in the NASL (which most of you are too young to remember)

  • Federer or Sampras?

meh...either is worthy, although Federer is killing it now...

  • Tiger or Nicklaus?

Tiger. He will eventually pass Jack and his records...

  • Petty or Earnhardt?

Petty... Wide World of Sports and auto racing, pre cable TV

  • Schumacher or Senna?

neither... I was a Nigel Mansell fan...

  • ACC, Big 12, Big East, Big Ten, Pac-12 or SEC?

    Pac-10 all day, every day
