"You've got to be closer to the edge than ever to win. That means sometimes you go over the edge, and I don't mean driving, either."
- Dale Earnhardt
"Perfection is not attainable, but if we chase perfection we can catch excellence."
I am an avid sports fan, my biggest passion is motorsports. If it has wheels, I like to see it be raced!!!!
I also enjoy college and pro football, baseball, hockey, golf and billiards.
One of my first NASCAR events was attending Martinsville Speedway at the age of 10 in the fall of 1980. Dale Earnhardt Sr. won that race and I have been a fan of both ever since. I have been to every major sport at least once or twice in person since that day and to me, not one of them equals the excitement, the adrenaline rush that is auto racing. I have attended about 45 Cup races since my first, I have been from Daytona up to Dover and several Nationwide and Truck series races in between.
My personal favorite event was attending the 1984 Firecracker 400 at Daytona with my family. Seeing King Richard win his 200th race was an amazing event, one I will never forget. From where we were sitting, we also got to enjoy seeing President Reagan congratulating Petty through the glass of the VIP boxes. My Mother is a die-hard Petty fan so you can imagine her thrill at seeing this event. My most recent race was the Heath Calhoun 400 at Richmond, May 1st 2010. The new video scoreboard really makes Richmond shine.
Thanks for signing up as a fan, Alan!
Hey there Alan!
Again, I thought I'd branch out from my NASCAR streak and do a list of who I consider to be ten of the most enduring athletes in American sports over the past 20 years. These talents have played through the pain, hardships, and against time while they achieved their successes. Take a look at my list and chime in with your thoughts!
Hiya.....hope all is well. Please take a second to read my latest, bleacherreport didnt put it anywhere for anyone to read and I thought the article turned out well. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/216276-dei-the-demise-of-what-was-once-a-promising-empire
Thanks for the fan vote. I don't usually do Nascar, but just felt the need to write that one... I enjoy your work also!
Great work on your first piece, I hope that you continue to publish many more. As Kara said, we're here if you ever need anything or just want to talk racing.
