Check out my new article on the top 10 fantasy 1st basemen.
Hope you're looking forward to game two of the NLDS! Here's my take on Chad Billingsley for the Dodgers:
UVI at the moment does not incorporate defense. I see defense as a separate entity from pitching or hitting. It's tough to really combine hitting and fielding into one stat, and even if you did, that would mean hitting UVI was even more different from pitching UVI than it already is.
The issue with doing defense stuff is this: There are so many defensive metrics out there (FRAA, +/-, and tons of others) and none seem to really agree on much. Even if we were to come up with something good for defense, it would just be something else in this jumble where no one knows what to believe.
The other big issue, as I outlined for some other things in my UVI: A Reprise article, is simply the lack of data widely available as far as defense. However, if you have any ideas on how to make a new defensive metric, I'd be eager to assist you.
There is plenty more work to be done on UVI however, and I highlight it both in the original article (talking about minor league translations, for one) and also in the Reprise article. If you could find some way to help me out with that stuff, I'd really appreciate it.
