Tony 's Bio

Tony (from NB) is a Canuck who's passionate about his beloved Oakland Raiders.

Just a regular "fan" who lives and dies with the Silver & Black. Being from Eastern Canada, it's been difficult to watch my Raiders over the years, however, the NFL Network/NFL TV Package has made it real easy.

I consider myself a knowledgeable football fan. I played some Canadian college ball, and enjoy coaching my 10yr old son.

My greatest hope is for Al Davis to “issue” one more Super Bowl Ring before he says goodbye!

PS: I’ll defend Davis until the end…he has been the one constant over 3 SB Championships. Can the Chargers, Lions, Eagles, Cardinals, Browns, Bengals…etc…. say the same?????

  1. Hey just wanted to say hello I haven't found too many Canadians on the site

  2. Tony,

It's always fun to have a little back and forth with a Raiders fan. If Chargers fans and Raiders fans can't poke a little fun at each other, who can? I agree with you about drafting skill positions. Obviously the core of any football team are the skill positions. But I also think it comes down to character as well. While McFadden hasn't been involved in any thing since he broke his foot, I would definitely be wary of what could happen. Not saying he is going to put himself into a bad situation but his family/friends might. On Russell, yes his agents were inexperienced and such but it still comes down to him in the end. If you're a rookie and you are trying to show not only your team but the entire NFL that you were worthy of the #1 pick, you get your ass on the field any way you can. Holding out is for chumps. Great article though.

  3. for some reason I can't reply on the articel so I might as well do it here, thanks for the feedback but i have to agree with Josh (to an extent) Russel is no Aikman and McFadden may not be an Emmit Smith, plus Drew Carter is not a number 2 in this league and neither is Ron Curry.

Maybe Bush won't recover... but then again, maybe he will, the Raiders can afford to wait because they have a 6th place running game due to the one size fits all zone blocking scheme they employ, they could've waited on Bush and still have been fine. I would rather have McFadden in KC than Dorsey because Dorsey will start right now and McFadden will be behind LJ on the depth chart

    Peace,
    Max

  4. Tony,

I appreciate you taking the time to let me know your opinion of the Raiders article. It was what it was. I emailed the owners and apologized for my "experiment" because it was a little cheap. But based on the couple of them that wrote back, they didn't have a problem with it. They got the joke. Had they had a problem with it, I would've pulled it immediately.

Look, you seem like a reasonable individual. But the problem with most Raiders fans I've come across (and I've come across many because I used to live in LA) is that they're easy to tweak and they come across as brainless thugs. I mean, if I were you I'd be embarrassed to be associated with them. If they acted more reasonbly no one would bother with them.

Just read the posts on my article. Or on Sean MCs article. It's horrific. I've written articles in the past that have been critical of other teams and I've NEVER gotten anything like that.

I'm a Yankee fan. And there are a lot of obnoxious Yankee fans. And I spend a fair amount to time trying to convince people that there are decent, reasonable Yankee fans out there. But what I would never do is excuse their behavior.

Anyway, sorry you didn't like the article. But thanks for the thought out respone. I wish more Raiders fans were like you.

    Dave

  5. I'm as shocked as anyone that the Bruins won. 5 goals might be more than they scored against the Canadiens all season long.

Thanks for the compliments on the Buckner piece. The Raider piece was geared more towards the contest. Maybe it was a mistake, but I really, really want to go to an opening day football game. :)

Hoepfully we're OK now. If anything, we can agree that Dice-K is maddening and it was nice to see Ortiz come out of it a bit today.

    Thanks,
    Sean

  6. Tony,
You do realize that the Raiders column was posted in the "Humor" section as a part of a contest to see who could get the most "reads", right? It's not a piece of journalism, and I never wanted it portrayed that way. It was supposed to be satire, not serious, etc.

Yes, it meant to get a reaction. That's part of the point of the contest. The same way my fake interview with Tom Brady was meant to get a reaction before the Super Bowl. Or my article about the 0-14 Tampa Bay Bucs celebrating when the Dolphins won a game.

Feel free to read some of my other stuff if you want to see my attempt (maybe a not-so-good one, but an attempt nonetheless) at journalism. This was certainly not an attempt at journalism.

Anyway, just trying to have a good time. Didn't mean to offend.

    -Sean
