Kenneth,
I figured you might like this piece.
I know it's a very lengthy piece, but it’s one I hope you find the time to enjoy at your leisure. It’s a fantastic biographical tribute to the greatest boxer in history, Sugar Ray Robinson. If you have the time, give it a perusal and let me know what you think.

Kenneth,
Let us talk about receiving that service in badminton:
Most of the time, around 90 percent of the time, it is going to be a short backhand service by your opponent.
How to handle such service and other services from a backhand or any preparatory position?
Simple, just follow this simple yet very effective strategy:
I would assume that you are already an advanced player. Thus, standing around a foot from the short service line, or even nearer the net for that matter, bend your leading knee some 4 inches lower assuming your are right handed). Lean and bend forward literaly and think backwards. That is leaning and bending forward, nearer the net, but you have to think at the same time of springing immediately backward and getting that low service lob that your opponent might try against you.
Thus, if the service does come in low and short, and falls just beyond the service line, you are already leaning forward to intercept that service when it is just about to cross the net. Strike hard or push the shuttle to a spot away from your two opponents.
But if the service does come in as an attacking lob service, you are already ahead because your mind is already set to back pedal immediately, if it is necesary.
In the end, you are both prepared to pounce on that low service if it crosses the net any higher than 3 inches or back pedal immediately if the service happens to be a low attacking service lob.
It is best to practice your smash going backwards both the forehand and round the head smashes and get nearer the net as near as posible without stepping on the short service line to intimidate or force your opponent to deliver a poor service to the back back.
There you are. You are now better prepared to receive that badminton service than 10 minutes ago. Good luck!
REMMEMBER: LEAN FORWARD BUT THINK BACKWARDS! GOOD LUCK!

Hello there Mr. Kenneth,
You are still a young sportsman and you have many fruitful years ahead of you. Especialy in badminton.
I could give some pointers in badminton, perhaps, that could improve your game.
Let start with the service.
Please do away with the popular backhand service. That is a bad idea of a service if you are playing in the Philippine invironment. Use the old way of serving. Forehand underhand service for the following reasons:
1. In all our games, 70 percent of the time, there is the need to push our opponent to the base line from the very start of a rally. And a deep lob shot service is the best service in doing this. Both in singles and in Doubles. Especially if it is a mix doubles and you are serving to the weaker partner which is often times the lady.
2. If the reciever returns the lob service with lob shot, then choose between the two partners and lob the shuttle to the weaker partner. Chances are the weak partner can not cope up with your lob shots and will eventually return a weak shot for you to put away handily.
3. There is no player in the Philippines who has the smash of Lin Dan or Taufic or Peter Gade or any top world players that a backhand short service is intended for. That is why you could always use the lob service. High, deep lob service and your opponent shall more likely loose that game or retire early. Use short service only at 30 percent or less of the time.
And practice your lob shot 70 percent of the time that you give to your practice. And nobody in the Philippines could beat you if you adopt this strategy in service.
Next time, I will discuss with you on how to recieve that service yourself. So long . Good luck!
