I watched the interview with Pettitte after the game and threw in the towel for the final time. I'm now rooting for Tampa Bay in the top of the 14th against Boston. He said something to the effect, "I'd hate to think as much money as we're getting paid that we'd give up." Sad. As well as he's pitched this year he has a horrible record. Thank you RUN PRODUCTION. I hope he's back to the new house, Moose too. Pettitte admitted he was "banged up" but wouldn't use that as an excuse. My only peace with all of this is I can now watch Boston squirm. I'm fishing tomorrow. Watch the fort, spread some sanity.

Could be worse, we could be the Patriots. I was looking at a map of Tampa the other night. Scary how close Jeter, Mussina, Rivera, Pinella, Tony Dungy, John Gruden, etc. all live to each other. Most are within a mile, Mussina is about 5 miles away.

You and that Nelson guy make me cry. Why don't we just move Yankee Stadium down to the Virginias and make you two boss? (LMFAO)

Then you two could play God and win pennants every year. You could trade Carl Pavano for cheerleaders and have your way with the tradition Hank and Brian have grown us. Lou Holtz could be manager. He's as big a red neck as the two of you. He'd fit in well. A-Rod strikes out four times in a game, Lou would bench his ass for a month.

In closing, you and Nelson are miserable people. You hate losing. That's not what baseball is about. It's about the smell of spring, the growing of flowers, the safety of leaving runners on base, no one getting hurt, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches with milk after games. Shame on you two miserable people. Someday maybe Manny Ramirez will be a Yankee and bring you peace.

You finally said something I've always wanted to say. I'm not afraid of Giambi's glove. Saturday has been a complete disaster. What else could wrong. Even the Sox are winning. Runners left on base are killing us. Shy is it so hard to hit a sac fly up in the air, and out of the infield. We're not asking for a hit. Just hit the ball up in the air. Jeez.

Correct...B/R Journalism 101 and "B/R will never be Official" have no business on the front page.

There actually is a full load of Journo 101-2-3-4-5-6-+on the blog pages...so there is no need for any more writing lessons for the masses...just for the individual that seeks awareness. When I find a kid that I like, I edit him often and show him the ropes if he's repeating tactical errors. I direct him to the writer's blog page.

I got three POTD's in my first three weeks and I STILL don't have a clue why or what they saw in that work to this day. I wouldn't have voted for it.

So, a writer sets up multiple egos and only POTDs, votes and comments on his own stuff...cool? No...because someone else is playing by the rules, writing GREAT work and that screws them over.

It's morally unsound, I hate it and I'll go down swinging at it...forever.

Debates and write offs...you mean 3-4 people debating within the same article? You can use www.wufoo.com and do that. If you mean linking back and forth between articles and debating that way...interesting...maybe a POTD idea!

We're just going to have to disagree on things Patrick, it's American...I will stop pulling tags though, you got me there.

You have kinda good points now that you've presented them and I see where you're coming from.

I still disagree to an extent...you write a Yanks vs O's piece...there are 2-3 O's lines and 1-3 O's players names that were meaningless...it's about the Yankees;

Yank, Yanks, Yanks this, Yanks that and...oh, by the way, NY was in Balmer last night...10-3, O's won, F%*k Markakis, Mora looked good.

The Pavano news is a scream. How long have I been yelling GIVE UP!?????????? The best way I can describe this mess to you is when I was a child and something scary would be on the tv in the living room. I'd poke my head out of the kitchen and watch til I got scared and then back in the kitchen. Get my courage up again and poke my head back out. Only now I don't run to the kitchen, I scream at the television. I scream at Cashman.

I'm unclear on blog/not blog so I'm off that committee.

The POTD deal has been clearly abused by multiple memberships off the the same ISP so that's my criteria..anything else goes, kids, gramma and that buddy in Anchorage...no problem.

You know my displeasure with a non-sports related piece getting POTD'd by vested parties...old news. I'm not backing down on that...ever. Those belong with your bloggers somewhere else.

I am a tag puller and I'm proud of that. If you do a Yankee vs Oriole piece and it keeps showing up on every Oriole website, search result or news service, I'm likely to pull that Oriole tag because I'm looking for Oriole writers and Oriole info...not how many career DPs A-Rod has hit into as of last night or the Carl Pavano saga. I want O's news.

I need to build the Orioles page...it's not like the Yankee/BoSox pages where you've got 20-40 writers to pick from.

I've only got 3 strong and maybe 4-5 total O's writers on the Oriole page. I'm not going to have a new Oriole fan/potential writer click on the O's page and see the White Sox - J.J. Stankevitz as the top O's writer because those two teams split a series three weeks ago but the O's tag still overrides the WSox tag. That O's tag has got to go.

This morning I just pulled 3 tags on 3 different writer's College Football stories that were tagged Auto Racing and F1...those guys had never even written a F1 story.

Pulling a tag is a must sometimes, simple as that. Those guys should have double checked before publishing as well as the editors before signing off.

I think tagging should be controlled and between the writer and an editor...sell me, why the tag?

RE: Barry Bonds...he won't help the Yankees...a 4.65 ERA will help the Yankees.

The cornerstone of this coalition is;

To ensure that a 'content rant' doesn't take the place of quality work on the front page and POTD.

To ensure that no writers/commenters are excluded based on their level of skill per B/R's mission statement being a place to learn the craft.

That said, we want full profiles to prevent alter-egos rating/POTDing/commenting on their own work and a word minimum that ensures a minimum of quality content.

That's a start. Your concerns are valid and foresighted but, presently, we need to start at the entry level to guarantee inclusiveness for the kids and prevent monopolies in discussions.

Take some time and consider it.

Bob A Louis, I'm putting strong coalition together to guarantee the safety of the rookies that haven't scored their chops yet.

I'm petitioning Zander for a "Rant Blog" on the B/R blog page to keep the content Nazis off of the POTD and front page and to give them a forum away from the real sports stories.

These content rants happen once a month and too often.

I also would like to see a front page window for the "rookie writer of the week".

I've got two other senior writers and a small but powerful cabal of revolutionaries lined up.

There will be no leader just a consensus on direction. We will be equals in sin.

You can't make the playoffs with games like tonight. Horrific. A-Rod absolutely took the wind out of the sails. How about starting the inning with three straight walks? That stunk! When will those bats crack, brother Patrick? What the heck is it going to take? I'm speechless.

A gift tonight brother Patrick. Yanks pull one off and Sox and Rays lose. Sounds simple, huh? Here's the hard part. You and I have been sitting here for a while screaming Bonds and Chef, this and that. I'm now convinced it's not us. It's management. Is management's best idea to save this thing is bring up Carl Pavano? What the hell? Granted, Cashman is a little weird and the Steinbrenners are full blown psycho, but is Pavano REALLY YOUR BEST IDEA? The thought of this being true scares the living hell out of me. Are they sitting there thinking, "If we can just get Pavano back in the rotation and Matsui heals in time, we can really make a run at this?" IS THAT WHAT THE HELL THEY ARE THINKING? Jeez dude, these are grim times.

On a lighter note, I saw a profile on Tom Seaver today. He was a kid with the Mets and they showed a behind the plate camera shot of a curveball, the likes of which I'd never seen. It made me take a step out of the box. Scary. Very Scary.

Another struggle with the mighty Royals. I was in the office today and missed the game. Just saw Tampa Bay lose which was good. All the news I got to read points towards a NO on Bonds and I found a curious article about the waivers Chef has been put on. His attitude is "I've been on waivers my entire life." Yea it is a true story. We asked him how his ribs were doing,... and when he thought he'd be back, he said he was feeling good but he didn't know when he'd be back. I'm pretty sure Hughes pitched again yesterday for the Triple A Scranton/Wilkes Barre Team. I know he is there, even if he's not on the roster. I looked at a roster when i was there and he was on it. I was very lucky. That game he was doing the Radar gun behind home plate, so I sat right next to him. It seems that 1 game before you pitch , you video the game and 2 games before you pitch, you do the radar gun. Kei Igawa was also there doing the video tape. If you want, I could email/ or picture txt you some pictures.

As bad as I hate to say it, I've thought Bonds as DH all year. Don't like the guy. Period. You said it, I didn't, but I wanted to.

This season has just gotten ugly. Poor Ponson couldn't buy a vowel. Place blame wherever you wish, injuries, pitching, hitting, the list goes on.

The hitting coach has to be feeling heat.

How is Damon leading the AL in average. Heard that tonight, had no clue.

Thanks for the offer. I probably won't do this kind of feature for awhile because I'm currently concentrating on the Cubs, Bears, and USA basketball for the next few weeks but I'll make sure to contact you when I'm looking to do something similar. The one thing you could probably help me with now is do you have a list of sites where you were able to get all that information? I'll probably do either baseball or basketball (specifically Cubs, Red Sox, Bulls, or Celtics) so if you can guide me towards some places that could get me a jump start, it would be greatly appreciated.

Only you will get this and understand. I stayed up late to watch the end of the Rays game. When Seattle got their last out and was coming to bat there was a feel of energy going thru that stadium like THERE IS NO WAY WE ARE NOT GOING TO WIN THIS GAME RIGHT HERE AND NOW. Everyone in the joint EXPECTED that walkoff homer to sail out. EVERYONE! It's just one of those feelings you get every now and then. When it left the park, a feeling of peace came over me. We just made up a full game.

We shall celebrate today with hot dogs for lunch. Chili and slaw, salt and pepper, dash of tobasco. REAL BASEBALL HOT DOGS. You guys do slaw down there don't ya?

wait, patrick,... i see your a senior writer. Does that mean your like co-founder of bleacher report, or did you work to get there? yesterday i was made an analyst. that is awsome to have that sort of connection to a pro sport, and the minor league (farm system of hockey is awsome. I know i love going minor league games for baseball and i always try to look for ways to be a part of it, like a bat boy or something. i'm not really a big hockey fan. I don't really know who to like.. .hahaha....... I know i love the Mets though and the Jets and Eagles. . I almost think that sometimes, minor league games are better, because its less hectic, less security, and you can get closer to the action (and take home some broken bats if your lucky)

Ya know Pat, the players the Jets added WERE pro bowlers, not necessarily ARE pro bowlers.

I just don't see if working out too well for either of them, the Jets or Favre. But only time will tell. I'm just glad Snyder didn't listen to you and invite him to DC!

i can see your a big yankees fan patrick, and i know guy who was always respected around baseball, even me being a Mets fan, i liked him: Bernie Williams, I saw him recently at the All Star Fan Fest in NYC. I live in new York. I can see how hard it must have been for you. i could only imagine if suddenly my favorite baseball player died. For me though, yes it would be hard, but nothing in the world can keep me away from baseball. I mean, i'm 14, and if its going to games, or watching games, or getting autographs in person or collecting basball cards and memorbiliia. I LOVE IT ALL!!!!! And then, when I'm at home in the offseason, there is bleacher report. Thats awsome that your gfather and father in the Hockey HOF? For what may I ask???? Thats pretty sweeet, I don't really have any connections to sports players or anything. except my neighbor, is Billy and Tony Coniglearo's Cousin. Kinda cool i guess. Thats cool. COmment back....

YUP, a gift alright, but I doubt that gift will be SB win. And the Jets have no choice, due to their salary cap situation, but to move Pennington and re-negotiate Favre's contract. I guess you were right about what Favre wanted, money, which makes me all the more disappointed in him.

Tampa is a stronger possibility, but the Packers are gonna play with the compensation to try to force him into NY instead. I just don't think he fits there well. As long it isn't DC, I OK with it.

I'm just not sure that money is the issue, if it were, wouldn't he have taken the supposed payday that was offered to stay retired. I expect that just like every other athlete who has reached that point in his career that it's put up or shut up time(towards the end, what's left?). he wants another championship, and that's what he'll be looking for while deciding where he might go. The Jets and the Bucs are reportedly close to a deal, but to me, neither is a good fit for him cuz I don't see either one being good enough to make it all the way.

And I wouldn't want the guy anyway, I compare him to Barry Sanders, a big play guy, but it's not big plays that win championships, just ask the big play Patriots of 2007 if their big play offense accomplished what they wanted it to. I'd be willing to bet they are more miserable now than last year after losing to the Colts in the AFC championship game(and that one #@(sed them off something fierce).

And as far as Campbell is concerned, I live around the DC area too(born and raised) and I DO think Campbell can get it done, and get it done very well. By the end of this coming season, he will be one of the top 5-10 in the league, and he won't fall from there. Favre would ruin the Redskins, and I hope to God Snyder and Cerrato aren't dumb enough to fall for him.

The jets suck is the problem there. He would have a better shot at making a bigger splash(with wins and a shot a Sb) in tampa than with the Jets.

I have a feeling he ends up playing somewhere noone has even thought of yet. Ever thought of the Raiders?

I won't be shocked if he ends up someplace entirely crazy. BUT NOT DC. The Skins would be crazy to bring him in, Campbell will be fine, there is no need to screw it up.

How is this for inside scoop. When Brett got to the stadium Sunday night, all excited that he was coming back and would be given a chance to play for the Packers again, they tell him they don't want him on the field. He goes to the box with Deanna to watch the game. He calls down to the sidelines and ask that a copy of the game plan get sent up to the box so he can follow with Coach Macarthy. A call back from the sidelines tells Brett that there is no game plan. They are just winging it for the night. Now is that BS or what. These are professionals playing an exhibition game in front of 50,000 fans. Ted and Coach Macarthy need to be run out of Green Bay. Brett is just a down to earth country boy. It is a shame the way they are treating him there. I think that Brett is being to nieve. He should go on the sidelines like you say and push the front office. Sadly enough, they will come back with some other media hype to try and make Brett look bad.

They brought him up there under false pretenses and Deanna and him want out of Green Bay as soon as possible. What a shame. He got on the plane and went back as soon as he thought he had a chance to play for the Packers again. Really sad, Green Bay's loss.

Hey Patrick, thanks for the kind words. I'm a fan of that pic of Charlie too -- probably represents how he'd like to deal with a few opposing coaches and members of the media, if you know what i mean.

Haven't written in a while, but who knows when the inspiration will strike... hopefully under some pleasant circumstances. To be honest, my sports teams haven't given me a whole lot to gush over during the past year or so. But I am ever the optimist.

patrick-thank you so much for the words of encouragement. unfortunately, the catholic school attitude has changed somewhat since you attended-though i only had one sister for a teacher (my last semester of literature senior year), she was probably the nicest teacher i crossed paths with and made reading tennessee williams as painless as it could be (we read four of his plays within a month-it was a St. John's University class). this lady was on cloud nine all the time, which made 12:15-1:00 the best part of the day. i did have one teacher that demanded so much out of me, my chemistry teacher sophomore year. and on that last day of high school, i thanked her for all the hell she put me through that year. it really helped me grow as a student and writer (yes, even a science teacher), to check everything as carefully as possible for maximum results. best of luck here on the site; i've come to discover that as many good-hearted sports fans on here, there are just as many critical sharks who want to discredit everything we work so hard for. i look forward to reading more of your good work.

Yeah I say the same thing, it's all gone downhill since Earnhardt died. And you're right Kerry is exactly like his father. I actually got the chance to meat Dale Earnhardt when I was 7 (1997) and I remember it like it was yesterday. My dad works for Snap-on Tools that's how I got to meet him.

As for Cobb.... Everyone can have their Babe Ruth's, Ted Williams', Willie Mays', Hank Aaron's, the greatest baseball player to ever play the game was Tyrus Raymond Cobb. His lifetime .367 Avg proves it. The only other player that was as good as he was was Pete Rose.

Yeah, I've been a to a couple games this year and they've both been against Toronto for some reason. A loss in early April and a win in early June. I'm going to a game vs. the Twins on July 22. Hopefully that won't be my last trip to the old Stadium. Have you made it up here for any games this year?

Sounds good like a very interesting idea. Let me know what the higher-ups have to say about getting us both in the byline. Should both write at the same time, or have one of us write a story and have the other respond? Either way works for me. If we do the first one, we need a concrete question or something probably to work off of. Maybe something like "When should past transgressions like drug or steriod use affect how fans admire an athlete's accomplishments?" Thats just something to kick around. Let me know what you think.

On a side note, I have a bit of a random question. What word processor do you use to type your articles? When articles are copy and pasted from a WP, they react in certain ways to the editing module. However, yours react in a way that no other article I have ever come across does.
