2010 College Football Predictions: Kentucky Is Right Around The Corner
July 31, 2010
I am from Cleveland, Ohio and attend the University of Kentucky. I grew up a huge Ohio State Buckeye Football fan and follow all Cleveland sports avidly. I do love Kentucky basketball although I never really followed them much till I started school. I am an Education major with a focus in history and a minor in psycohology. I would like to coach at some point in my life (either Baseball, Basketball, or Soccer). If you like to argue sports I am your guy. I may not always be right but I will almost always think I am.

Hi Corey, congratulations on a great article, and thanks for embracing Big Blue Nation! I just want to point out one small thing about your article. It is true that Kentucky has no (major league) professional sports, and it is quite true that UK basketball is easily the one program that gets by far the most play in the state. But I hate for people around the country to think that we don't have other sports interests around here, because that just isn't true! Most of us are fans of the Bengals and Reds and consider Cincinnati almost a part of the state. Growing up in the 70's, I (and everyone I knew) was a HUGE fan of the Big Red Machine. We also love our high school sports, especially basketball (of course) and football. We have the World Equestrian Games coming to Lexington this fall and that is a very big deal. We also have a lot of minor league professional basketball, baseball, and soccer teams around the state and most of those teams have strong followings. And of course there is horse racing. Even though the Derby is the "major league event" that gets all the national attention, there are actually a lot of big races held in both Louisville and Lexington. In summary, while no would would argue that Kentucky Basketball is king in the Commonwealth, we do have a lot of passionate fans of other sports as well! Again, thanks for a great article and keep up the good work! GO CATS!
