Lew's Bio

I'm a native Southern Californian who found his way up to the Great Northwest to attend Washington State University. My bachelor s degree was awarded in 1973. It all started in 1969 though. That's when I was invited into the WSU family and became a life long Cougar. Yes, I'm a Coug!

The foundation gained through my years in Pullman have benefited my family and me in enumerable ways. My collegiate passion is summed in two well known words...

"GO COUGS!!!"

Favorite Athletes

Favorite Sports Teams

Washington State Cougars

All Time Sports Moment

Kirk Gibson's improbable homerun off Dennis Eckersley. The only time in my life when I exhibited a 42" vertical leap. Oh yeah, we were there about 8 rows up behind first base. There was no doubt about Gibson's shot going. It was gone...all the way.

Most Memorable Game Attended

2003 Holiday Bowl when the Cougs upset #4 Texas with a one-legged quarterback and monster defense. Close second would be the 1988 conference game when WSU upset the #1 ranked UCLA Bruins on their home turf in the Rose Bowl.

Most Unbreakable Sports Record

DiMaggio's 56 game hitting streak.

Ruth or Mays?

Ruth, the quintessential bowler turned baseball player...

Unitas or Montana?

Joe Montana was the prototypical winner. Period.

Pele or Maradona?

Who?

Jordan or Gretzky?

Wayne Gretzky had athletic talent comparable to Michael Jordan, but did more to elevate his sport through focus, class and dedication.

Pac 10, Big 12, Big 10, SEC, ACC, or Big East?

PAC-10 of course...are you kidding?

  1. You got it man. Pac-10 Representin'!

  2. Hey Lew,

Check out my article on fellow Cougar, Kyle Weaver

    http://bleacherreport.com/articles/22269-NBA-Draft-Will-Kyle-Weaver-Land-with-the-Nuggets--090508

  3. Thanks for the pick, Lew. Good point about growing up as the son of GS. Some fates are too dire to even begin contemplating...

    Hope all is well,

    RA

  4. Hey, Lew

Check out my article on Wisconsin's Micheal Flowers and where he should go to in the NBA Draft

    http://bleacherreport.com/articles/19818-NBA-Draft-Why-The-Denver-Nuggets-Should-Draft-Michael-Flowers

    Thanks-

  5. Lew,
First, I wasn't born in LA, my Dad coached their Raquetball 9If I spelled it right.)2nd, it depends, if Darren Collinson tries to be a 3-point shooter, probably. If he tries to be a assists-guy, no. If he tries to be a drive-to-the-hoop-guy, maybe.

  6. Lew,

I appreciate that a lot...I have also done the same on my site. Your address is now on my blog roll.

    John

  7. Lew,

Thanks for the vote of confidence...believe me your work is also very good. That also got me thinking about your blog site as well mine. Maybe there is a way I could post your stuff on my blog site that displays your blog address...hopefully redirecting some traffic your way.

It was just a thought...of course the entire idea is to get some traffic and increase the numbers.

    Thanks.

    John

  8. Lew - I've been kind of slackin' with my favorite writers, you were a natural addition. I mean, who else knows the pac-10 like you?

  9. Hey Lew, just wanted to let you know: based solely on editing so many of your previews and recaps, I've been riding WSU hard all weekend long, and looking like a genius at the bar as a result.

This will probably change on Thursday, unless Arkansas pulls off some kind of miracle, but I wanted to show you some appreciation while I could. Thanks!

  10. no problem...the Ducks have a real issue at point guard. Tajuan Porter can't play it, but Ernie insists on keeping him there. Not that he has much of a choice considering the only other option is a true freshman who recently sprained his ankle playing pick-up ball at the student rec-center. Cougs are looking better an better, I thought they were going to get Stanford on Saturday. Can't wait for March Madness.

  11. Yeah, I know this is going to sound terrible, but I used Wikipedia for that initial style decision—not that it reflects accuracy, per se, but certainly accepted usage. In addition, I feel it makes more sense, as PAC is not an acronym like SEC or ACC. Looking at our short list above, though, I see we've left out the hyphen, so who knows who has it right?

  12. Lew,

Any chance we'll see a preview on the Pac-10 conference tournament from you? Maybe some picks and a run-down of each team, top players, etc?

I'm hoping to see as many conference tourneys covered as possible.

  13. Happy to help, Lew. I'm hoping that polishing WSU articles will get some of the magic to rub off...

  14. Haha...we've been swamped with articles lately, so I've been spending most of my time tweaking art and headlines rather than doing substantive edits. Your stuff is generally pretty tight, though, so keep up the good work!

  15. Hey Lew,

I just wanted to let you know that Bleacher Report has launched out of beta with an updated look and feel and some great new features. Check out the "Game On" link in the header to find out more.

Next week we'll be launching the site to the world with some public announcements—and it'd be great to get a contribution from you between now and Tuesday to make Bleacher Report's launch a success.

Let me know if you need any help with ideas or have questions. Have a great weekend Lew!

    Zander
