About Ryan »

I am New Orleans born and bred, although I've spent a large part of my life outside the city as well. New Orleans will always be home, though.

I Inherited the Saints and wouldn't have it any other way. I know I say it every year, but this really is the year. I can't wait to see black and gold in the Superbowl and won't settle for anything less.

I am currently a soldier in the United States Army stationed in Iraq once again. I've been in for 10 years now and plan to finish my career in another 10. For those who have also served, my hat's off. For those who haven't, there are many ways to contribute, so never look down on yourself. Soldiers certainly don't, and we appreciate the support.

I am married to an amazing woman that makes me feel lucky every day I am with her. I have three children, two from my first marriage and one with this one. My family comes first in my life ahead of all else as it should be.

I'm a sports enthusiast. I play football, basketball, baseball, softball, rugby, soccer, volleyball etc. You name it, I either play it or am just looking for the opportunity to. Having said that, this has been a sad year for me in sports that has seen two amazing players leave my favorite teams: Deuce McAllister and Christiano Ronaldo.

At least in the case of Deuce, he has left the backfield in very capable hands, but Manch doesn't really have an answer for Ronaldo (He's just not someone that can be replaced.)

This is my first stab at writing. I've always liked writing and have attempted a few projects (novels, short stories, little things really), but I've never found something I really enjoyed like this. Perhaps I'll continue to pursue this. Gonna need something to do when I retire ;)

In any case, that's me.

The Shortlist »

  • Favorite Athletes

Barry Sanders, Reggie Bush, Chris Paul

  • Favorite Sports Teams

New Orleans Saints, New Orleans Hornets, LSU

  • Favorite Coaches

Jim Mora, Sean Payton, Phil Jackson

  • All Time Sports Moment

At the Saints return to the Superdome after its rebuilding, the blocked punt by Gleason. That one play set the tone for the entire season.

  • Most Memorable Game Attended

Saints versus Pittsburg, the season the Saints went to the Champion ship game. I was in PA on leave from Iraq. I went to the game and was one of like 5 fans in the stadium. If Copper hadn't fumbled, we'd have left with a win.

  • Most Unbreakable Sports Record

Dan Marino's record. If Drew couldn't break it, no one will. The odds of the Saints throwing the ball that much again just aren't that good, especially with a better defense.

  • Ruth or Mays?

Ruth. The man called his shot!

  • Unitas or Montana?

Montana, he set the bar for generations of quarterbacks to shoot for.

  • Jordan or Russell?

Jordan, no contest. Although Lebron may give him a run.

  • Gretzky or Orr?

    Too close to call.

  • Pele or Maradona?

    Pele, best foot in football.

  • Federer or Sampras?

Sampras WAS tennis during a time when competition was very heavy.

  • Tiger or Nicklaus?

Nicklaus did it all with far less technology in his golf bag.

  • Petty or Earnhardt?

You just gotta love Tom, he's what a car driver is supposed to look and sound like.

  • Schumacher or Senna?

  • Pac 10, Big 12, Big 10, SEC, ACC, or Big East?

SEC!!!!!!! The most dominant division in college for good reason.

Welcome to the Saints community.
I loved your latest article about the Saints and I recently wrote an article that was sort of on the same topic at http://bleacherreport.com/articles/201803-the-importance-of-sports-how-the-saints-helped-new-orleans-to-recover.
I host a Saints podcast at www.saintspodcast.webs.com along with another B/R Saints writer named Will Osgood.
If you have Skype, I would love to have you on.

The way I see it, the Saints need to win a Super Bowl in three years or less.

Nice article, keep up the good work. Its tough to say for sure what Meach will do but I am not ready to call him a bust just yet. He's an athletic guy and I'm sure he has not reached his true potential yet.
