About Dave »

I am excited to be a new member to Bleacher Report. I am told I always have an opinion...so I thought I'd share it with others and see how they feel. My goal this year is to bring a fresh perspective to the Los Angeles Kings, as I feel they are about to turn the corner with their young and excitingly talented squad. I have been a fan of the Kings for over 20 years, and feel this year will be the start of their greatest era as a franchise since #99 came to town in '88.

I have been a fan of hockey as far back as I can remember in all it's glorious forms. NHL, CHL, International...and get excited every spring for the Stanley and Memorial Cups, and every Christmas for World Juniors. I am a die hard London Knights fan, and was very fortunate to have attended the 2005 Memorial Cup in London as part of the Volunteer Organizing Committee, which was probably the greatest sports related week of my life. I also now Volunteer with Rogers TV for Broadcasts of OHL hockey, namely the Guelph Storm and Kitchener Rangers doing camera or other work in the production truck.

Hockey is my 1st love by a long shot, but I also cheer for the Oakland A's and San Fransisco 49ers...so needless to say, combined with my Kings, I don't get a chance to follow my own teams to the post season very often anymore. But I feel the Kings will change that trend this season.

I am a Fantasy Sports enthusiast, running my own fantasy hockey pool with friends, competing in many others. I keep in touch with great friends with our fantasy football and baseball keeper leagues which have been going for 10 + years. I am also an avid "autograph hound" and memorabilia collector, with Don Cherry, Mike Bossy, Luc Robitaille, Sidney Crosby, the 2005 London Knights team and now Wayne Gretzky being the Crown Jewels of my "signature" collection. It is always an honor to meet the legends of the hockey world.

P.S. I have finally met, shook hands and obtained an autograph from no less than #99 himself. Thanks to Wayne and Janet Gretzky for their great golf tournament last weekend in Ontario. www.gretzky.com/golf

I currently live in Brantford ON (Gretzky Country), with my wife Katy and son Owen

The Shortlist »

  • Favorite Athletes

Wayne Gretzky, Sidney Crosby, Mike Bossy, Luc Robitaille, Steve Young, Jerry Rice, Rickey Henderson, Mark McGwire

  • Favorite Sports Teams

Los Angeles Kings, London Knights, San Fransisco 49ers, Oakland A's, Detroit Pistons, Pittsburgh Penguins

  • Favorite Coaches

Don Cherry, Bill Walsh, Al Arbour, Dale Hunter, George Seifert, Tony LaRussa, Chuck Daly

  • All Time Sports Moment

Winning Gold at the 2002 Olympics in hockey against the home squad. That was my 1972....

  • Most Memorable Game Attended

Watching from the glass as the London Knights ended a 40 year drought by Winning the Memorial Cup in Grand Style shutting down Sid Crosby and the Rimouski Juggernaut 4-0...London put on a display not soon to be duplicated. (After the 1st Period of opening night, they didn't give up a goal to Rimouski in 5 periods plus the OT from Game 1!)

  • Most Unbreakable Sports Record

92 Goals will be tough, but 163 Assists and 215 points are mind boggling..currently, this is a league where 50 goals and 100 points are hard to come by...92 goals is a possibility, but the assists and points..very unlikely

  • Ruth or Mays?

Any guy that can pound the ball like he pounded beers, hot dogs and other things..gotta respect that.

  • Unitas or Montana?

Montana...this guy was the definition of "clutch" performer. You always felt there was a possibility when 16 had the ball

  • Jordan or Russell?

I wasn't a fan...but can't deny what Jordan did for the sport and in the sport. (though I feel he tainted his legacy with all the comebacks, sorta like Favre is doing now)

  • Gretzky or Orr?

Gretzky. Bobby Orr was the best for his time and his position, but Gretz revolutionized the sport in SO many ways...and was such a class act on and off the ice..(so was Bobby), but Gretzky was just the ICON for the sport...his name is synonymous with Hockey

  • Pele or Maradona?

Honestly, soccer is not my thing. But I know of Pele..he had an Atari game named after him....

  • Federer or Sampras?

John McEnroe for pure entertainment value

  • Tiger or Nicklaus?

I am not a fan, especially after the "hockey" comment, but I'll give him his due, he is up there with Gretzky and Jordan for dominating his chosen sport.

  • Petty or Earnhardt?

Earnhardt...(because my wife is a fan..)

  • Schumacher or Senna?

    Again, not my thing...

  • Pac 10, Big 12, Big 10, SEC, ACC, or Big East?

    I'm too busy watching hockey....

Dave Dunseith commented on Yzerman and Team Canada Better Not Overlook Patrice Bergeron

Was a great world junior...yes. but Olympics? that is a HUGE stretch considering the talent that already will be left off this team...not to mention that...

Maybe Carolina has more discreet PhotoMats where Jiri can get his pictures devloped and not leaked to the media....

I cannot believe you put the Sedins on this list with a bunch of other disastrous duds. What the hell are you thinking? Lots of players...
