About

Growing up in Michigan, I've been accustomed to a bit of disappointment with my sports teams. Thankfully though, in the past 10 years, it has been exactly the opposite for the Red Wings and Pistons, even the Tigers have had a bit of success in the past few years. Even though the Lions haven't had the best run since I've been around, I'm still a Lions fan until the day I die. But enough about that, I grew up in Southeast Michigan. I've played competitive roller hockey since the age of 10. I've been lucky enough to have that take me all over North America in places like California, Florida, Illinois, Ohio, Toronto, Mississauga, Pittsburgh, and others too. I'm very competitive and play just about any sport you can think of for fun. I'm a die hard Red Wings fan. They come first in my book. I also follow the Pistons and Tigers. Sadly, I'll confess I still root for the Lions every week.

Short List

  • Favorite Athletes

Chris Osgood, Pavel Datsyuk, Roberto Luongo, Alexander Ovechkin, Evgeni Malkin, Manny Ramirez, Chipper Jones, Grady Sizemore, Hanley Ramirez, Jose Reyes, Jacoby Ellsbury, Ed Reed, Tom Brady, Braylon Edwards, Ray Allen, Chris Paul, Kobe Bryant, Joe Johnson.

  • Favorite Sports Teams

Detroit Red Wings, New Orleans Hornets, Detroit Tigers, Detroit Lions.

  • All Time Sports Moment

    Every Detroit Red Wings Stanley Cup I've seen. 1997, 1998, 2002, 2008.

  • Most Memorable Game Attended

Braylon Edwards v. MSU [Triple OT in 2004]

  • Most Unbreakable Sports Record

Joe DiMaggio's 56 game hitting streak.

  • Ruth or Mays?

Willie Mays. Babe Ruth hit home runs, but Willie Mays was a dominant outfielder, hit for power, total bases, and stole bases.

  • Unitas or Montana?

I never saw Unitas play, but Montana was so rugged and tough, it's hard to pick against him.

  • Jordan or Russell?

Michael Jordan. He was the most dominant player of his era. I believe the best ever. If you disagree, just ask his rings.

  • Gretzky or Orr?

Bobby Orr. He was a consistently solid defender, but he put up ridiculous numbers offensively as well. Gretzky very rarely came back past center ice.

  • Pele or Maradona?

Pele. He was an amazing ambassador for the sport of soccer. He was also the most skilled I have ever seen play that game.

  • Federer or Sampras?

Pete Sampras. All those memorable matches with Andre Agassi, the tremendous body hair, and he's married to Veronica Vaughn from Billy Madison.

  • Tiger or Nicklaus?

Tiger. Especially after seeing what he did at the 2008 U.S. Open. He is the best golfer ever.

  • ACC, Big 12, Big East, Big Ten, Pac-12 or SEC?

    SEC-Football. ACC-Basketball.

Don't sweat it. There's very little that will rile me up like a direct criticism of the team--and players--into which I've poured my heart and soul. I like to see that fire in other fans. It shows we're here for the right reasons.

I know common knowledge dictates the salary cap and CBA structure doesn't favor the dynasties of yore, but can you think of two better teams to break the mold?

Training camp can't start soon enough!

Kudos to the staunch defense you provided for Lidstrom. Like I told Keith, I have nothing but respect for him, and I strongly believe he did nothing wrong--just like I believe the same of Crosby.

You guys have staying power, and no one needs to tell you twice.

I'm sure we'll see you next season,

    Andrew,

I'm gonna get this first Wings roundtable article going. The topic for the first one is just going to be, summarize the first month of the Wings season. Pretty easy

email your segment to me at kshelton@nmu.edu, try to get it done by this weekend if possible and I'll get it posted.
    Thanks

    Hey Andrew

I was thinking we have a pretty big Wings community on B/R and we should get a weekly roundtable article going here.

Each week, the top 5 Wings writers could contribute their segment and the person posting the article will rotate among the top 5 writers. Each week there will be a different topic decided on by whoever's turn it is. I could lead first. Anyway, let me know if you're interested
