Debs Francisco is currently a freelance hockey writer and the director of communications for rugby at The King's College in New York City. She was a staff writing intern for the Pittsburgh Penguins in the spring of 2009 where her articles regularly appeared in the Penguins game day program, Ice Time, and on PittsburghPenguins.com. She has also written for InsideHockey.com and MVN.com. She is a senior at The King’s College in New York City where she studies Philosophy, Politics and Economics (PP&E) with a concentration in media. As a sophomore, she interned at Madison Square Garden, home of the New York Rangers, in the new media department.
Her love for hockey started at age 12 when her older brothers sat down to watch a Colorado Avalanche game with her and patiently taught her the rules of the game. The first NHL game she attended was a heated rivalry tilt between the Avalanche and the Red Wings at the Pepsi Center. Shortly after discovering her love for the game, she became the Los Alamos Monitor’s beat writer for the Hilltoppers’ ice-hockey team from 2002-2005. The Monitor eventually hired her as a freelance sportswriter. She started playing hockey herself in an adult pick-up league in Santa Fe, New Mexico in the summer of 2007. She currently resides in New York City.
