MMA is the fastest growing sport in the world.
That’s what we keep hearing, in the news, on the internet, on the sides of buses. At the Daily Scrap (http://www.mmadailyscrap.com), we don’t think of MMA as just a sport - we think of it as a lifestyle. It’s about not submitting. Not to your opponent, your boss, or your girlfriend.
Mixed martial arts is popular for some obvious reasons: it’s exciting, it’s raw, it’s the first sport for the children of YouTube - you can watch an entire UFC fight while your supervisor is taking a piss. Our mission, however, is to examine the sport through a sociological lens. Facebook and Twitter are cool, yes, but they are not substitutes for real experience.
You can’t abbreviate a fight with 160 characters. You can’t call upon your avatar to save you when a two-hundred pound man is straddling your body, punching you in the face. At the Daily Scrap, we believe that MMA is a form of social protest - the punk rock for Generation Kill. “I have a body,” these fighters are shouting….and America is listening.
Who’s Behind This?
The Daily Scrap is the brainchild of a group of accomplished internet-exec-geeks by day and fight junkies at night. Got to let off steam somehow!
Editor-in-Chief: Brett Neichin
Having sketched out the idea for the site, the group turned to Brett Neichin to be our fearless Editor-In-Chief and Head Writer and to build a bridge between hardcore fight fans and casual observers. Brett is a New York based writer and martial artist (the relatively rare combo we were looking for!). Brett lives in New York City where he trains in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, churns out articles as a freelance journalist, and is currently at work on a novel.
Whats goin on Daily Scrap! With the calm after the affliction storm, the mma awards are up. Your acceptance speech would be appreciated.
