Derek's Bio

I'm a young college student living in metro-Atlanta. My day job currently is in retail but I long for a career in sports journalism. My favorite sport is baseball but I watch basketball and football as well. I collect baseball cards as a side hobby because of my passion for the game.

I live for sports, it is what gets me through the rough times as I'm sure it does for many others. I hope to become a premier writer sometime in the future as I've embarked on this journey in my college career.

My favorite sports team is the Cardinals ever since I saw the great home run chase of '98 with Sosa and Big Mac. I've been privy to highs and lows with my team including a World Series championship in '06, but I've been through the disastrous '04 World Series sweep. I bleed Cardinal red.

  1. Derek-

I recently wrote an article on the Cardinals top prospects and some primed break out prospects. Being a Cardinal fan, I think you may enjoy it. Hope to hear from you!

    -Joel

  2. Thanks Derek! It's great to be a top writer for one of the most respected franchises in all of sports.

    Also, thanks for the add!

  3. Hey Derek, read my latest article. It's kinda baseball related, and I think you'll like it. Give me some feedback! Thanks.

  4. Derek,

Being one of the top writers in the St. Louis Cardinals' community, we are relying on you to turn in some awesome stuff for us!

I just want to remind you to keep coming with solid stories. We have all been slacking as of late with school starting back up for many, but we need to keep the STL community one of the strongest in the MLB section. We have started off really well, so let's keep it going!

    Ben

  5. Hey man, the new Roundtable is up. Enjoy.

  6. Hey Derek. I'm probably just gonna scrap the roundtable I was doing, but my email is ptfb79@mizzou.edu for future reference. Thanks man.

    Peter

  7. Derek,

It's coming together slowly but surely. The problem is you sent your answers to me, but John sent his answers to you, and Peter is putting together the whole thing! If you and John could email your stuff to Peter, that would help expedite the process. I'll try to get you Peter's email address, or simply leave him a note on his bulletin, and he'll get back to you with it!

If you could pass this note on to John, that would be really helpful.

    Thanks as always,
    Ben

  8. Thanks.

Lohse always had some decent stuff but just not too much consistency. He had some quality starts for Philly last year and was shocked guys like Benson got contracts before Kyle. I remember Garrett Stephenson for Philly and how mad I was when he started to deal early for STL.

  9. Derek:

Thanks a lot for commenting my article, reading it but just as much for voting for it as Pick of the Day.

You're welcome for Kyle Lohse ;)

    -Joe

  10. Derek, one of the things I do as the Cubs community leader is to remove "Cubs" tags from any articles that aren't specifically about the Cubs. What B/R wants us to do is to limit the team articles to ones whose central message or theme is the Cubs, not because the Cardinals happened tp play the Cubs or because a Cub player is mentioned. By removing the Cubs tag, the article doesn't show up if you click on the Cubs, but it still shows up in the Cardinals and MLB places, etc. Hope that helps...Bob

  11. I agree with your thoughts on the the one line paragraphs, but the big guns above me keep telling me to keep each paragraph REALLY SHORT. It makes it easier to read.

    take care!

  12. Thanks for the comment on my article, I did realize that it was not a no hitter and tried to stay away from the term. I guess I over-looked that one sentence. Thanks for pointing it out, I've now reworded it.

    Best,
    Molly

  13. Thanks for the comment Derek. I too am a huge Cardinals fan so I only write about the boys in red. Even though Ludwick has been great this year and I really do like him a lot (I have is autograph), I feel like he was benefiting too much when Albert was in the lineup. Now with Albert back, Ludwick looks like his oldself...the 2007, not the 2006. He can hit the ball well, but he won't be a big threat.

And we weren't getting those runs in with Albert in the lineup. So, I hope that changes because we need to get those runs to cross the plate.

  14. Thanks for the comment!
