My name is Michael Erler, and I live in the Bay Area. I worked for two years at the San Mateo Daily Journal, covering mostly sports, including the 49ers beat. Suppose some stranger comes up to you on the street and asks you, the devoted 49ers fan in your throwback Joe Montana jersey, who's better: Aaron Rodgers or Alex Smith? Almost reflexively you answer Rodgers...
