About Lucas »

Writer, editor, mammal. Longtime Nashville-based print journalist, covering music, sports and technology. (In other words...he's a professional geek.)

The Shortlist »

  • Favorite Athletes

Growing Up: Roger Staubach. Started writing about sports: Troy Aikman. Pro sports in Nashville: Bruce Matthews

  • Favorite Sports Teams

NFL: Titans, Cowboys. NHL: Predators, whoever's playing the Red Wings. MLB: Indians, Brewers. NBA: Spurs, Mavs. NCAA: OU Sooners, ACU Wildcats.

  • Favorite Coaches

Jeff Fisher and Barry Trotz. (I'm a Nashville homer...sue me.)

  • All Time Sports Moment

Music City Miracle. I was there.

  • Most Memorable Game Attended

    Super Bowl XXXIV

  • Most Unbreakable Sports Record

Joe DiMaggio's hit streak. Too many distractions in the modern day sporting world.

  • Ruth or Mays?

Ruth had more tools, but lesser competition. Mays could take your breath away. Advantage: Ruth.

  • Unitas or Montana?

Unitas revolutionized the position, while wearing black shoes. My stomach turns everytime I see The Catch. Advantage: Unitas.

  • Jordan or Russell?

Jordan could beat you 23 different ways. Russell was the consummate big man. Advantage: Jordan

  • Gretzky or Orr?

Only time I saw Gretzky live, he dished out five assists. Orr could beat you on offense and defense. Advantage: Gretzky

  • Pele or Maradona?

At the risk of alienating most of the rest of the world, any sport that can determine its world championship on the basis of a 0-0 tie, I have no time for.

  • Federer or Sampras?

Federer has tremendous tools. Sampras dominated when men's tennis was at its peak. Advantage: Sampras.

  • Tiger or Nicklaus?

Tiger will be the best ever. But will he ever have a moment like the '86 Masters? Advantage: Nicklaus (till Tiger gets that 21st major, that is...)

  • Petty or Earnhardt?

The King is the king. The Intimidator brought the sport to respectability. Advantage: Petty

  • Schumacher or Senna?

I can neither confirm, nor deny. Barely have enough room in my head for the IRL, much less Formula 1.

  • Pac 10, Big 12, Big 10, SEC, ACC, or Big East?

Brought up in Big 12 (actually, Big 8) country, lived my adult life in SEC country. Kinda depends on the sport, but overall...gonna go with the Big 12.

Hey man, I've been looking around this place for a while and I really like your articles. Would you be interested in posting some of your work on my football site? You could also join the forums which are great for football discussion.
