About Jack »

My claim to fame, thus far, is being the only Virginia student reporter (to the best of my knowledge) who's ever covered the Cavaliers' NFL pro days—for WahooWire.com in 2008 and for the Cavalier Daily this past March.

It's a start.

Quotation of the moment: "You only get one chance." [Bill Belichick]

The Shortlist »

  • Favorite Athletes

Presently: Haloti Ngata, Darnell Dockett, and Maurice Jones-Drew. All-time: Warren Sapp, Orlando Pace, Earl Campbell, and Lawrence Taylor—violent players and superb athletes.

  • Favorite Sports Teams

The Jaguars, ever since they were born back in 1993. Juventus, after I caught them on ESPN2 in a Champions League match in 2001, when Buffon had just been bought from Parma. I follow the Brewers, Sharks, Grizzlies, and John Calipari in-season.

  • Favorite Coaches

Bill Parcells, for the Planet Theory. Didier Deschamps, for guiding Juve through the Serie B year. Jack Del Rio, for looking (and acting) like he might still suit up.

  • All Time Sports Moment

Super Bowl XXXI: Reggie White clubbing Patriots RT Max Lane to the ground, then slamming into Drew Bledsoe for one of his three sacks. The outside head-fake, then that powerful right hand that put Lane down like a tackling dummy. Unstoppable.

  • Most Memorable Game Attended

Jan. 12, 2008: Jaguars at Patriots. I had a standing-room only ticket, so I watched most of the game on the Jumbotron. But I still remember looking at the field as a deep pass fell through Dennis Northcutt's outstretched arms. Garrard was "on" that night, but Brady was on fire against the Jaguars.

  • Most Unbreakable Sports Record

Record books are useless. Use your eyes.

  • Ruth or Mays?

    Vladimir Guerrero.

  • Unitas or Montana?

    Mark Brunell.

  • Jordan or Russell?

    Baron Davis.

  • Gretzky or Orr?

    Tomas Kaberle.

  • Pele or Maradona?

    David Trezeguet—especially over Maradona.

  • Federer or Sampras?

Roger Federer, the only tennis professional alive who doesn't grunt out his strokes.

  • Tiger or Nicklaus?

    Golf? No, thanks.

  • Petty or Earnhardt?

    Tony Stewart.

  • Schumacher or Senna?

Neither. Zero Sprint Cups between them.

  • Pac 10, Big 12, Big 10, SEC, ACC, or Big East?

I have to say "ACC," but I don't want to.
