Jim Thome Signs with the Twins and I'm Eating My Words
01/26/2010
Dan is a recent graduate of the University of Chicago with an A.B. in political science. He is currently an intern with Baseball Prospectus and is endlessly interested by the ongoing debate about the utility of Quality Starts as a metric. He hopes to begin a position in Player Evaluation and Development this winter, bringing his Sabermetric perspective and vast analytical toolbox to the major leagues.
Failing that, Dan has a chance to pursue journalism further, having accepted an offer of admission at Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism. The jury is still out on whether he'll attempt to cover politics or sports.
Inspired by J.R. Richard, I decided to choose one player from each team who's number deserves to be retired. Take a look when you get a chance, and let me know what you think.

That's a good scenario to bring up Dan, about Delmon and Thome's pt. Hopefully neither one slumps and they will be fine with rotating, but this...

Ha i forgot to mention the 2nd spot in the order but it looks like you...
I'm an admitted Delmon apologist, but his play down the stretch last season makes me believe that he has really turned the corner. At worst, Thome...
I'm still skeptical, if for no better reason than this appears to completely shut the door on Hudson and the Twins reportedly don't like Lopez's defense...
Mmmm...Shoe. OK, so Jim Thome didn't sign for 400k, but the contract he did agree to--1 year, $1.5 million in base salary with $750,000 in incentives based on plate appearances--is pretty close, much closer than I thought he'd receive...
Bill Ladson of Nationals.com is tweeting that Hudson is nearing a deal with "a team" and sources tell him Washington is on top of his "wish...
The Dodgers should re-sign Hudson to another one year deal therefore him and Blake Dewitt could split that spot during the season and have Caroll come...
The O-cab option is still a little strange to me. I can buy that he could make the move to second, but that transition coupled with...
Jeremiah Graves replied…
I could see that. I figure Oakland is known for hurting hitters (see: Holliday, Matt) and...
Dan Wade replied…
I guess my thinking is that if he's not 100%, then it's a toss-up between Punto...
Great stuff, Dan. I was working on a column that says basically the exact same thing. If it were five years ago, I'd be all about...
