Joi's Bio
I have had a passion for sports since the age of 5 - thanks to growing up in a very sports oriented family. From Nascar to NBA and MBA, my father taught me as much as I chose to absorb.
Living only a few miles from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, it was nearly impossible to not be a Tarheel fan thanks to the dynamic Michael Jordan.
My father was a Washington Redskins fan when I really started to take notice of the NFL and my natural choice for my own team was the rivals of the ’skins - the love ‘em or hate ‘em Cowboys. Watching my father scream at the t.v., and taunt my eventual favorite by calling them the "Cowgirls", I immediately knew that competition was a beautiful thing.
Even through a transitional life move to Florida as a teenager, I kept my loyalty to the Dallas Cowboys. I attended my first NFL game at Texas Stadium in 1998 vs the rival Redskins and was hooked on the game, the team, and the stadium for life.
I also began my love of writing at the age of 8. What started as a girlie-diary-keeping activity has now turned into many volumes of stories of life, sprinkled with tidbits of my football ups and downs.
I recently reviewed my writings through my twenties and was unaware of how much I journaled about watching games, yelling at the t.v., and the glory of days when my team was in the Super Bowl.
Although my major in college was graphic design and t.v. production, I became involved in sports broadcasting on a local AM station thanks to a friend I had known for many years. It was by accident that I appeared on the show when one day they asked a question about the NFL’s all time leading rusher - the answer to which I knew - and our phone banter turned into an invite to be a guest on the show.
“Sports Talk with Kono and MJ”, my intials were used as an indirect reference to the great Michael Jordan. After a short and fun run on one a.m. station, we eventually moved to a larger market and broadcasted our last show in the fall of 2004.
Currently, we are seeking to rejuvenate our radio show in the South Florida market and hope to be able to support the 2010 Super Bowl in Miami.
My lifelong loyalty lies with the Cowboys, and I’ll be the first to admit that my other favorite team is not the Miami Dolphins. However, I find it challenging and yet satisfying to write about this team that is so close to my home, and can be at times, so close to my heart.
Loving the NFL means loving all of it.

Hi Joi
I know it's not exactly the kind of work Leroy Watson and Dr. Giles were looking to inspire through the new article tag "Sports and STEM, but as always I took my own road. Hope you enjoy.

Re-devoting myself to New England Patriots writing. This is the first in a series, where I'm checking in with all of the different positions on the roster and seeing where the Patriots stand. First up is the offensive line. Your read/feedback would be greatly appreciated!
