About Dan »

Hello fellow bleacher reporters. My name is Dan Israeli, and yes, I am an award winning sports journalist.

OK. I won the award at a weekly newspaper convention. But hey, I'm an award winner nonetheless. And it was a NYPA sanctioned event!

I am a diehard sports fan, who much rather kickback with a few beers and a stacked night of sporting events than go out and meet human beings.

As a native of Queens, New York, I am loyal to the Mets, Jets and Knicks - a trifecta of losing teams. As frustrating as it can be at times, I remain loyal.

I love fantasy sports. Well, fantasy baseball and football. There just isn't anything exciting about racking up rebounds in a roto b-ball league. At least for me.

I guess that's all for now. I hope I have won you all over with my charm and wit. Maybe one day I'll revise this part of my page, but for now, I got me some article writing to do...

The Shortlist »

  • Favorite Athletes

Mike Piazza, Patrick Ewing, LeBron James, Jose Reyes, David Wright, Eddie Murray, Wayne Chrebet, Leon Washington, Clyde Drexler and finally, "The Rocket" Chet Steadman.

  • Favorite Sports Teams

Mets, Jets and Knicks. I like...to lose.

  • Favorite Coaches

Bobby Valentine, Bill Parcells and Dick Vermeil (for press conference purposes)

  • All Time Sports Moment

Two plays, 1999 NBA Playoffs. Allan Houston's bounce against Miami or Larry Johnson's 4-point play against Indiana.

  • Most Memorable Game Attended

Mets-Braves game in June of 1999. Height of Jon Rocker controversy. Fan had a dummy Jon Rocker head-on-a-stick.

  • Most Unbreakable Sports Record

Easy. That guy who beat Mario Brothers in 5 minutes. But seriously, the Joe guy, with the hits.

  • Ruth or Mays?

    All-round talent..Mays. Hot dogs consumed...Ruth.

  • Unitas or Montana?

Testaverde. But honestly, and it pains me to say, Brady.

  • Jordan or Russell?

    Jordan. Please.

  • Gretzky or Orr?

    Gretzky. Again, please.

  • Pele or Maradona?

    Mar-who-a?

  • Federer or Sampras?

  • Tiger or Nicklaus?

    Chubbs Peterson. RIP.

  • Petty or Earnhardt?

Whoever's car is faster I assume.

  • Schumacher or Senna?

    Come again?

  • Pac 10, Big 12, Big 10, SEC, ACC, or Big East?

The Hudson Valley Athletic Conference D3. (Lets go Purchase Panthers!)

Thanks to BR, I recently interviewed Knicks legend Earl Monroe. Here is what he had to say on a variety of topics, including the current state of the Knicks!

Hey Dan! I actually sat next to your mom on a flight from Maine to NYC and she told me to contact you. Hope you're doing well and good job on your awards and internships!

I'm a freelance sportswriter in Nashville and heard you have similar aspirations. Let's keep in touch in the future. I always love to network.

Yours kindly,
Hank

Hey there!
Today, I go back in time ten years ago in which the All Star Game was celebrated at Fenway Park in Boston. Arguably the most emotional All Star Game of all time as we celebrated a legend in Ted Williams who would not be with us much longer. But throughout the game, Williams' farewell had truly inspired the AL to win this game. Take a look back as I run down this historic game

Hey Dan,

I wrote a piece in May highlighting the position players that I thought should make the all star team. I started a 2-part follow up piece today focusing on starting pitchers. I started with AL. If you get the chance, I'd appreciate it if you took a look at it. Thanks

Apologies for the blast promotion, but this is less about getting my article out as it is about getting this kid's story to the masses.

He's been facing long odds since HS and continues to prove he belongs—having just been drafted by the SF Giants in the 36th round. Now, he's got another improbable climb to the Show, but he sounds like the kind of guy we should be rooting for:

Hey,

The biggest week of games to date this season begins for the Mets with Six games against the Phillies and the Yankees, its a real test for a team that has dealt with quite a bit during this early part of the season. With this I'm presenting another version of my Top Five with the subject centering around how the Mets can be successful this week against the Phils and Yanks. I hope you enjoy and thanks in advance.

Thanks Andrew. Because of your kind gesture I know have fan(s) as opposed to a fan! One more, and I believe that's called "a streak."
