About

So, you ask, how is it that i follow the New England Patriots, New Jersey Devils and Nets, and the Baltimore Orioles and Terps. Well obviously I'm not a fair-weather fan, see Orioles and 11 straight losing years. The answer is that I spent the first 8 years of my life in West Orange, NJ. Having been born to an Italian immigrant, my father did not care much for sports other than soccer, and that only once every 4 years. So it was up to the people around me to introduce me to sports. My uncle lives in Boston and is a die-hard Pats fan. I remember going to visit him in the winter and he would tell me everything I could possibly want to know about the pats. Whenever possible he would make me watch the games with him, and as is human nature, all this exposure led me to be a pats fan. However growing up in Jersey all my friends followed the local teams. When it came to the devils and nets I felt guilty not rooting for the local teams so I forced myself to follow them (it helped a little that the devils were good back then but the nets were terrible), but when it came to football I reasoned that the Giants and Jets are not Jersey so I stuck with the Pats. I used the same logic with the Mets and Yankees, but I never really got into any baseball team until I moved to Baltimore. For those of you who have ever been to Baltimore know that the Orioles (at least used to) hold a special place in all the locals hearts. They were the only team. So when I moved here and made new friends, they got me hooked on the O's. They took me to tons of games, taught me all the history and showed me the Oriole way. I have become so hooked that I even stuck with them through the the past ten (extremely difficult) years. And that is how I have become one of the most confused sports fans in the country.
