Colby's Bio

I like to kick it.

I write on many topics, however, my most frequent work is in sports, primarily baseball. I have collected some of my other work on my personal website, though I must warn you it's largely in the same vain as my work on Bleacher Report.

I went to the University of Iowa where I studied American literature and writing. I've been a baseball fan for as long as I can remember. But from the strike-shortened season in 1994 until McGwire, Sosa, and Griffey (he was there, too) lit up the sky in 1998, my interest in baseball was uninspired.

So...I can genuinely thank performance enhancing drugs for bringing baseball back into my life, but I don't like to.

I hope you enjoy my work. Regardless if you do or not, feel free to contact me for any reason at http://colbypash.wordpress.com or colbypash@gmail.com

The Short List What Colby thinks about sport's most pressing questions

  • All Time Sports Moment

Dave Roberts' stolen base in the ninth against the Yankees in game 4 of the 2004 ALCS and the following heroics. As a baseball fan, it gets no better than this.

  • Most Memorable Game Attended

2004 Capitol One Bowl, Iowa vs. LSU, Drew Tate to Warren Halloway 56-yard touchdown pass as time expires to win the game.

  • Ruth or Mays?

Mays was a better all-around athlete, but Ruth was a lights out pitcher in his day, too. But I have to go with Mays, as he made the game exciting to watch for nine innings, top to bottom, for his entire career. He played center field at the Polo Grounds for crying out loud.

  • Unitas or Montana?

So similar to the Manning vs. Brady dialogue I've often had in my head. Same result, it's Montana. John Candy? Come on.

  • Federer or Sampras?

The question here is "Federer vs. Nadal or Sampras vs. Andre Agassi." And it's Federer vs. Nadal

  • Tiger or Nicklaus?

Tiger might be the most dominant athlete in the history of sports.

  1. I haven't pimped an article in awhile, but the silence is deafening, so here I go again.

I think that the Strasburg negotiations warrant a look at something that MLB should have adopted a long time ago. I'd like to know if you agree.

  2. Yankee fans rooting for the Red Sox? Has hell frozen over, or is there a rational thought process at the root of it all. Read why it is ok for you to root for Boston on select occasions without feeling like Benedict Arnold.

  4. There has always been a connection between religion and sports, and Major League Baseball has certainly not been the exception to the rule.

  5. Hey,

The turmoil surrounding the 1977 Yankees earned them the nickname of “The Bronx Zoo.” The current 2009 Yankees have an interesting blend of leaders and pranksters, so I decided to create a LITERAL “zoo.”

Check out what animal each Yankee would be reincarnated as in a next life.

Chien-Ming Wang collected his 1st win in 379 days. This puts him on pace to reach 300 wins on Oct. 21, 2263. Can it happen? Read why I am not ruling the tall Taiwanese right-hander out quite yet.

I am really pleased with the reaction to this article I wrote last night, just to blow off steam from a long day at work. I didn't really pimp it at all, but since it's gotten a good response I thought I would push a bit. Take a look if you have time today. Thanks
