John's Bio

I enjoy four things; eating tacos, watching people eat tacos, making taco sand castles and watching old Bengals highlight videos. Also, when I'm in Pittsburgh I like to do whatever I can to make the city a worse piece of trash then it already is, this could include peeing on a sidewalk, giving alcohol to their homeless, littering and making sure my car is letting out extra exhaust.

I was born three days after the Bengals played the Chargers in the Freezer Bowl which is actually rather depressing because it means that I popped out of the womb just in time to see the Bengals get smashed 20-0 in the first half of Super Bowl XVI.

I graduated from Miami University in Ohio (2005), I hate the University of Miami in Florida because every time I tell people I went to Miami they say, 'Oh sweet, four years in Florida must have been awesome.' Then I say, 'First of all, it's in Ohio and second of all I was there five years.' My degree was in journalism.

While at Miami, I started a magazine called Miami Quarterly (http://www.miamiquarterlyonline.com), so if you're ever in Oxford, feel free to check out an article or two between beer pong matches.

I also spent two seasons (03-04) working for the school's football team as a coach's assistant. And yes, this does mean that as a Bengals fan, I have a love-hate relationship with Ben Roethlisberger.

Thanks to my degree, I now spend my time wandering the high schools of Atlanta covering whatever sports my editor tells me too! Oh wait, I'm the editor. The paper I work for is called The Beacon, it's located in suburban Atlanta and you can check it out at www.beaconcast.com.

Oh and since my paying job involves using real journalism skills six days a week, I like to put my own entertaining spin on things I write in my free time.

Also, I love writing about the Bengals. And to answer your Bengals related questions: no, I'm not crazy, no I have never attempted suicide, yes, I think Ickey Woods should be on 'Dancing with the Stars,' definitely Chris Henry in the kitchen with the revolver and no, I don't watch Baywatch instead of the 4th quarter when the Bengals are getting blown out.

I think its about time for someone to have taken a positive stance on the issue.

Would love to get your thoughts if you get the chance.

  6. I wanted to thank you for helping me correct my mistake about the number of winning seasons the Bengals had in the 80's. The information was right in front of me I just missed it. I'd of let it go, but apparently when you write this kind of stuff accuracy is important, for whatever reason.
    Thanks again.

  7. Much has been written about the Steelers, the 1970s, and their use of steroids. The current public perception is the Steelers began and glamorized the use of roids in the 70s. Read my article to find out who one man, with 4 NFL teams, spread the use of steroids throughout the NFL, beginning in 1963, and see just how pervasive roid usage was by the time the Steelers began their decade of dominance.

  8. The second newspaper I managed was The Humboldt Beacon, since then purchased by Dean Singleton and now a total, total rag with the editor having stole a story from a competing newspaper when he was still a reporter, saying he didn't know it was wrong and still keeping his job. It probably has a circulation of 500 now. I left it at about 7,000 in a town of 10,800 at that time and neighboring communities of about half that amount. It's sad.

  9. Which rookies won't live up to their fan's loftiest expectations?
