Didn’t really like your Clint Dempsey article. You make some valid points and your clearly articulate, but to say Fulham were a ‘once dead club’ was pretty ridiculous. They were an established premier league team, and their upturn in fortunes has been down to Roy Hodgson as a manager and the fact that Al Fayed invests a reasonable amount of money in the club without ever wanting a return. Dempsey has been a solid player for a number of years, but has only been a great player for Fulham the last season. He spent 4 and a half seasons being ‘quite good’ but nobody has ever stated that Dempsey was too good for Fulham until last season. Other than one season Fulham has been about his level. So the question is ‘has he got better’ or did he have one lucky season where he could get found out if he moved to a bigger club? I suppose the comeback could be ‘it’s worth finding out either way’ if that’s the case, and I agree that he probably should test himself at a club in the CL. You also say he has been leading Fulham for a number of years, again this isn’t really true. Fulham got to a European final in 2010, and Dempsey was on the bench. Infact he’s often been on the the bench in his Fulham career. Not to say that he often hasn’t had an impact coming off the bench (winner against juventus, he came off the bench to score that) but to say he has been leading the club is again wide of the mark. Check the history before writing this… Dempsey is a good player who has had one great season. Fulham will do well with or without him, basically until Al Fayed passes away or they get really unlucky with a manager.
