Blaine Spence commented on Harbaugh vs. Singletary: 49ers' 2011 Season of Overnight Success Is a Myth:
It all has to do with potential and how it is achieved. I have always said in the last few years this team had been loaded...

On Sports:
I'm a die-hard sports fan from the South Bay. I got my Baseball from the East Bay (Go A's!) and my Football up the Peninsula (49er Faithful for life!)
As far as college ball goes, I've got roots in Nebraska and bleed Big Red, but I support all local Bay Area teams; give me Cal in The Big Game.
I enjoy watching any and all competitions, including but not limited to: Boxing, Football, Baseball, Basketball, Hockey, Golf, Bikini competitions, Competitive Eating, Olympic everything, Poker, UFC, Arm Wrestling, Thumb Wrestling, Fishing, Cooking, Survivor, Racing, Danica, and so on and so on...Soccer? Not so much - maybe once every 4 years or so I get a kick out of it.
On writing:
I guess I owe my goof-ball style to the crazy teachers who encouraged my incorrigible attitude over the years, but Craig Harkins convinced me to run with it (he liked sports too) so I thusly have a peeve against capitol H's, a love for z's, x's, compound adjectives, and I like to hit the space bar twice after a sentence ending period. The editors here at Bleacher Report do an excellent job of cleaning up my mess, so a big "thank you" to all of them. Except for when they mess it up. Bah!
I attack subjects with a philosophical napalm, and try to burn through to a deeper, hidden truth.
I'll gladly defend my positions against well presented counterarguments, as long as dogmatic cynicism is kept to a minimum.
On journalism—if you can call it that:
I'm not pretending to be a beat writer, and I don't make the news (or even report it necessarily.) I just pop it in the microwave until I hear a ding; then I serve it on a golden platter with a cold beer. "WTF does that even mean?" you might ask. Nothing really. I'm sticking poetry and pros in the blender with ice and hitting frappé. I take what I find, and give what I get. Truth may be subjectivity, but reality is depravity. And please don't quote me on any of that.
Joseph...I had an idea that might interest you...maybe a way where we can feature the stuff we write on a bit more exclusive website that focuses on Bay Area stuff. If you're interested, let me know. It's a thought I had that involves rounding up a few interesting, thoughtful writers ... contact me at tsillanpaa1956@gmail.com. As always, I enjoy your stuff. TED Sillanpaa
