Thanks for the Memories, Joe: Hockey Loses a Giant
07/08/2009
I've been a diehard Toronto Maple Leafs fan since before I could walk, and I've grown up with a love for hockey in general. I like to keep tabs on what's happening with every team, and the NHL isn't the only hockey I love - AHL, junior, university or international, you name it and I love it. I also enjoy most other sports, with the exception of basketball.
In the photo, I'm with Columbus Blue Jackets radio announcers Bill Davidge (colour) and George Matthews (play-by-play) in the press box during a game against Nashville in Nov. 2007.
I've been interested in sports writing for a long time, since I was a kid. I got my start as a sports reporter for my campus paper about three years ago, and since then I've amassed a wide range of experience in print and broadcast media, mostly in university sports. I've been the voice of the UPEI Panthers hockey club the last two years, and I've worked closely with the team and the local newspaper to produce game stories and player profiles.
Now I've been fortunate enough to translate that experience into a sports reporting job with The Clarion in Kindersley, SK. Teams I cover include the Kindersley Klippers (Jr. A) and Kindersley Red Lions (senior hockey) along with multiple baseball teams, curling, soccer, football, stock car racing and more.
Career highlights:
-Interviews with Bryan Trottier, Curtis Glencross, Joel Ward, Derek Dorsett, Steve MacIntyre, Joel Kwiatkowski, Cherie Piper, Jenny Potter, Dave Randorf and Maple Leafs prospects Joel Champagne and Andrew MacWilliam
-Broadcast coverage of 2008 Esso Women's Nationals, 2005 CIS men's soccer championship, 2007 AUS women's soccer championship, and several tier two hockey tournaments
-Article on Joe Sakic's retirement featured on CBSSports.com (July 2009)
It's a little late but I thought I'd add my two cents regarding Joe Sakic's retirement. Please feel free to take a gander when you get a spare moment. Thanks.

Josh, no worries man. I understand the whole keeping it more personal, and I actually thought that as I made the edits, so I'm glad you decided to keep your piece the way you like it.
Oh, and by the way, your article is currently on the front page of B/R so hopefully you end up getting lots and lots of hits!

Well, Josh. I think you did more than justice in that piece you wrote.
Just keep up the great writing.

Hey I wrote an article on the current state of NHL writers on Bleacher Report and I think it's an important read to members of the community. Take a look when you get a chance. Thanks.

I am surprised by the number of people who actually want to reserve the right to bad-mouth their teams! I offer constructive criticism, of course, but one in particular wants to be able to say, "they suck," if they do.
I don't get it. Will YOU take the pledge?

Hey Josh,
For my "Creating Controversy" series, I like to get ideas from other readers, and writers. Do you have any Ideas for a topic? By the way, the topic has to be about the NHL.

Hey Josh. Good holidays so far? Are/have you made it to Calgary?
Anyway, I wanted to tell you I posted a year-end review and quiz...I know how much you like the trivia, so I wanted to give you a head's up!
I hope all is going well! Take it easy.
