Ryan's Bio

Massive Portsmouth FC supporter, I've been following the boys since our old first division days. A university student from America, I spend my days reading and writing about the English game, and am practically encyclopedic when it comes to player/club histories and statistics. I'm a season ticket holder at Fratton Park, and a student at Magdalen College at the University of Oxford.

I've always had a passion for writing, and an even stronger passion for football. I have the honor of serving as the Portsmouth Community Leader here on Bleacher Report, but my knowledge of the game isn't limited to just the South Coast side.

I've had the honor of having my work featured on Fox Soccer's website, and hope to see many more on there:

http://msn.foxsports.com/soccer/story/9409582/Peter-Crouch-proves-point-in-England-win
I hope to find my work on a lot more sites other than that.

University work - particularly my thesis - keeps me pretty busy, but I write as often as I can about the topics I know and the issues I am passionate about.

  • Favorite Athletes

Shaun Wright-Phillips, Gary O'Neil, Matthew Taylor, Yakubu, Linvoy Primus, Alan Knight

  • Favorite Sports Teams

Portsmouth Football Club, England National Football Team

  • Favorite Coaches

Alan Ball, Jim Smith, Brian Clough

  • All Time Sports Moment

When Sol went up to lift the FA Cup

  • Most Memorable Game Attended

Portsmouth 2-1 Manchester City, March 2006 - In a moment of despair for Portsmouth supporters, we saw Pedro Mendes fire in two 25 yard thunderbolts - including one that was practically the last kick of the game - to begin our great escape. It was an absolutely incredible moment, and one that many supporters believe was the reason we stayed up despite an awful season

  • Most Unbreakable Sports Record

"Gentleman Jim" Dickinson's disciplinary record - in 845 appearances in a Pompey shirt and 48 in an England shirt, Dickinson was NEVER BOOKED a single time, earning him his nickname.

Swindon Town's John Trollope's record for most league appearances for a single team: 770. Dickinson had 764 for Portsmouth, and in today's modern game, it is a record which will never be beaten

  • Pele or Maradona?

Pele - a well respected leader of the game, rather than an over-the-top wash-up

  6. Hey Ryan,

I've written an article about Liverpool with religious connections as it is Easter Sunday. Now, I'm not the most religious guy on this earth, as you may have guessed, so I'm not sure how it has come out! I would appreciate your thoughts and views on it as I'm not convinced it came out as well as I had planned!
