Ryan's Bio

Massive Portsmouth FC supporter, I've been following the boys since our old first division days. A university student from America, I spend my days reading and writing about the English game, and am practically encyclopedic when it comes to player/club histories and statistics.

I've always had a passion for writing, and an even stronger passion for football. Everyone has their dream job, and I wish I could only have the opportunity to be able to write/work professionally for my club or a news site like Sky Sports, Rivals, ESPN, etc.

University work - particularly my thesis - keeps me pretty busy, but I write as often as I can about the topics I know and the things I care about.

Favorite Athletes

Shaun Wright-Phillips - A never-give-in, never-say die attitude

Matthew Taylor - Love of family, love of the game, and completely underrated!

Gary O'Neil - A true leader on the pitch. I really miss Gary-O!

Aiyegbeni Yakubu - From the first match I ever saw him play in, I knew he was gold and was going to go places. Several years on, and I firmly believe him to be one of the best strikers around.br>
Linvoy Primus - One of the few TRULY loyal players to the game remaining. The man bleeds professionalism

David James - Absolute quality, never put off by the critics. He just puts his head down and keeps putting in great performances

All Time Sports Moment

Portsmouth 2-1 Manchester City, March 2006 -In a moment of dire despair for Portsmouth supporters, we saw Pedro Mendes fire in two 25 yard thunderbolts - including one that was practically the last kick of the game - to begin our great escape. It was an absolutely incredible moment, and one that many supporters believe was the reason we stayed up despite an awful season

Pele or Maradona?

Pele - a well respected leader of the game, rather than an over-the-top wash-up

  1. Thanks for the pick of the day!

  2. Just read through a few of your articles Ryan and at the risk of sounding like I'm engaging in some mutual back slapping i just wanted to tell you i love your writing style. Expressing opinions is what Bleacher is for as far as I'm concerned and you express yours very eloquently. Keep up the good work.

  3. Thanks a lot for the add Ryan I appreciate it!

  4. Thanks for the pick Ryan.

  5. Oh yeah, and where are you at uni? I have just graduated - I know all about the pain of the dissertation!

  6. Hey Jon,

If you liked my 'Undisclosed' article, I thought you might like to read my first article in a new series. If you could have a look, I would really appreciate it:

I would love to know what you think! Keep up the good writing, the B/R powers that be tell editors to rate 'breaking news' articles poorly - so it was great to give a topical article like yours some credit!

    Thanks,
    Alex

  7. Sadly Ryan, I'm furious about it. I regard Thomas as our best player (and for the pompey fans, we normally sing "We love Jerome - JER-OME Thomas!"), and to say I'm disappointed is an understatement. I think we could have had an easier year if he'd been in the side, but I do understand that his wage bill is the highest in the club, and we are going to find it difficult from now on to keep good players.

In my opinion, Arsenal were daft to sell him to us. He is by far a better player than the Arsenal players who were picked over him (e.g Alexandre song), andI am sure he will be a valuable addition to the pompey side.

    Good luck for the weekend!

    Kind Regards,

    Simon

  8. Ryan,

Thank your for your kind comments. Sadly you have to be very patient sometimes, but as you - said professionalism wins through. I have read through a few of your articles, and I am very impressed. I hope to see more of your work.

Good luck to Pompey in the cup! Finally, a real club wins the trophy hopefully!

    Kind Regards,

    Simon
