My name is Ken Armer. I am a 21 year old college student who resides in Waco, Texas. I am the Community Leader for the Anaheim Ducks and an Intern for Bleacher Report. I am more than happy to look over an article or add help to one, just drop me a line and ill get back to you.

I was born in Kansas City, Missouri in 1987.

At about age 8 I attended my first hockey game thanks to my older sister who lives in Dallas. It featured the Dallas Stars against the Vancouver Canucks and from that moment on I fell in love with the game. Within a year my father and I had a new bonding activity and he was tossing money left and right so I could learn to skate, play the game, and sign up for a league.

I played hockey in Kansas City during the time the Blades of the IHL were around, and got to learn hockey from several of their historic players. I also had amazing coaches who taught me the values of the game on and off the ice. My father and I often watched games together and were always adding our own commentary and comments. His passion for the game made me love it more, which may be why when he passed away in 2002, I hung up my skates.

The game wasn't the same without him. I have since played hockey several times. Thanks to my father I can read and analyze with the best of them. I hope to one day as a father myself become a hockey coach, and hope to one day write for the Los Angeles Times covering the Anaheim Ducks. Either way, the game is in my blood, and I could not have gotten the passion for the game without my dad. So thanks dad, I pray that every article I write has a piece of you in it.

I would also like to thank everyone on Bleacher Report who is a reader, fan or helps me with all of my work. Thanks for sure go out to Bryan Thiel, and Chandra Zorr (for all your editing advice). Thanks guys, I wouldn't enjoy working on articles half as much if it wasn't for you.

i dont mind the fact that he got hurt, I mean it is quite possible that it was painful. but he was down the ice a little longer than what it looked like...

I agree completely. If Dallas wins game 1, Detroit might panic thinking a game 2 loss is inevitable with how Dallas has played. That could transition into Dallas having a mental edge going into game 2, and subsequently coming home to Dallas.

I've heard people say the same about chemistry. I don't think it'd be an issue though. He's been here since 1999 - the longest tenured Flyer right now. He's got great chemistry with Knuble, and he works well with Richards too. He had a little trouble with Briere earlier in the year because he more or less required Briere to shift into the playmaking mode Forsberg was in. However, I think Gagne would be helped greatly by Prospal passing him the puck on that line, so I think it would be a non-factor.

I don't think he'll rush into the lineup though. I wouldn't expect him back this season regardless. Let's just hope he rests up and comes back refreshed next season.

I guess somehow people are wondering and asking a few questions back at the series. it all came down to the goalie situation, the fact of having replaced Price by Halak; and the trios management during the playoffs.

dont worry, no matter what people will say about him, he is the only coach in the NHL would went from 9th in the standings to first with pretty much the same guys. more, a rookie goalie as number one.
he is an amazing coach, and it is just his second year behind the bench. personnaly, I feel really proud to have my team in his hands.

I just read the article on Petersen, and I couldn't agree more. I had this program on my satellite about 3 or 4 years ago called "Chasing the Dream" which followed the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins of the AHL. Petersen was the captain on that team too, and just watching him work, and how much positive energy he brings to the rink everyday just makes you appreciate the hardworking guys around the league that do so much.

Also, I was reading through your profile. Really touching bro. You've got some serious passion for hockey. We need more people like us haha.

I'm not ready to call him Lindros yet. Remember, Lindros had 8 concussions during the 9 years he played here. Gagne's only had 1 major one in the 9 years he's been here. I think as long as he doesn't rush back into the lineup, even if that means missing some time next year (which I really don't anticipate), he should be back to his usual form. Concussions are hard to gauge though because each one is different. Let's just hope that he gets back to form though. I can just imagine putting him back up on that first line with Briere and Prospal...

Re: Great Forsberg article, and Welcome to Bleacher Report, im Ken (as you can see). I had a question for you, i recently did an Article about Simon Gagne and i was just wondering if he has played yet for the Flyers? Feel free to check it out, i thought it was a good article but clearly i was wrong, they may not need him.

No, Gagne hasn't played since January I believe. His doctor told him to shut it down for the season because his concussion symptoms had never fully cleared. We thought he had taken a bunch of concussions at first, but in fact he had only taken one (from a pretty nasty hit by Bouwmeester) which never healed because he kept rushing back into the lineup and a couple of subsequent hits just brought the symptoms back worse than before. By January he still wasn't feeling right and his doctor told him to shut it down for the season.

To the best of my knowledge, though, he was never placed on LTIR. Gagne said that if we're in the Stanley Cup Finals, he may attempt a return.

Personally, I'm not betting on it.

And no, they may not "need" him right now, but man, imagine inserting Gagne into this lineup at full health. I think we would have swept both Washington and Montreal easily. This team's just on fire and Martin Biron is playing the best hockey of his life.

Hey now, the only reason why I liked the Ducks was because of Paul Kariya. I used to think he was soooo cute. I was a Sharks fan, then a Ducks fan for a second, then a Sharks fan again. I will never be converted. I will add you as a fave writer, but only because you asked so nicely.

Haha, thanks. I'm glad you like the stuff I write! I'm always so paranoid about what people think about my stuff (since I write for hockeybuzz too), so that's something I really need to work on as a writer, I guess. And you need to change that profile picture...ASAP. I will find a way to turn you over to the better side...hahaha! :)

Hey, how come you wanna write about the Ducks when you show yourself as a Stars fan in your profile photo? Was last round torment for you?

I used to hate the Stars for stealing the team away from the state of hockey (and the Cup in '99!), but I like them more than the rivalry should allow now. But I do hate the Ducks because they are dirty and signed that thug who should be in prison Bertuzzi. I also hate any team that has TO, and am a Packers' fan.

Maybe we can be friends anyway. :)

Incidentally, according to the game summary from NHL.com, it's BrendEn Morrow, not BrendOn Morrow--could that be? I want to make sure I have it right (I was writing BrendAn Morrow...), especially since the way he's playing, I probably will have to add him to MY favourite players!

I've really never been a fan of Jagr's personally. He left to get paid, which we all thought he deserved because of his "immense talent" and then he just decided to stop trying. He's hockey's JD Drew really.

Thanks bro, I don't know how you do it being a Ducks and Stars fan at the same time, but I am not complaining as long as you go for the Stars! Ill be cheering hard for them Friday and I can tell by your pic that you will be too.

I actually got pictures of Turk, Otter, Smitty, and Halpern, but of course, Halpern and Smitty are now with TB. Ironic cause I met them right after they beat the Ducks and we all happened to be celebrating at the same bar!

thanks for the video, Ken. for sure, that is a statement of the true heart of hockey.

I guess both Gainey and Carbo still have in mind the guts they had to prove with the Stars back then. the canadiens do not realize what piece of treasure they have in their coach and GM, those guys are part of history and are true legends. they must have great playoffs tales!

the video responsible for the Habs, Mario Leblanc has always made great shots to motivate his players. this one should be part of them.

Awesome dude! I have a Selanne jersey. He's been my favorite since he was traded to Anaheim from Winnipeg. I became a fan in the 94-95 season (their second season). I used to live in Orange county, but was forced to move 3 and 1/2 hrs north the summer after the '03 cup run. I still attend games regularly so i'm not too disappointed.

And ya, No problem, send me an email sometime and we can talk more about this (im not sure how this all works yet so just tell me how and i'll get in contact with ya haha)

Hahahaha that's an interesting question. I've been at school since yesterday at 8am (it's currently 2:45 tuesday morning here in London, Ontario) and a bunch of us have a project due. I finished earlier, but I've stuck it out to help some of my buddies finish it up. We actually patched some of the monitors through with the Bruins game, and I was here with my laptop, so that's how my most recent running diary came about....I really need sleep (once I get out of here I think I'm taking the rest of tuesday off! haha) How about you?

As far as I know, Top Writers is a combination of things: How many comments you leave, article views, articles written, that kind of stuff. In all honesty I think I just kinda stumbled into my spot up there, and I just keep looking for different and unique articles to try and keep me up there. You'll notice the top two NHL guys have something like....130 articles so they're up there because of sheer volume. It just takes a whole lot of perseverance and a little luck (with regards to some of your articles garnering more interest than others on the same topic).

Well I'll do what I can my friend! As far as a kind of mentor...I'm honored to be honest. But ultimately switching your major is up to you. If sports writing is something that you're passionate about, then it becomes immensley easier, and you seem genuinely passionate. The passion is definetly something that is necessary in this field, and when you've got it....well it'll make switching your major all the easier and enjoyable.

I'll do what I can to help out when you need it, but the greatest way to get better is to just keep plugging at it, and studying other writer's styles to help get yourself some direction. Researching players and stats before writing is always a great way to expand your knowledge of the game, as well as adding another dimension to your writing (although sometimes you've just got to write to get something off your chest which happens too!). I'll make a point of it to check in when you've written something new and leave feedback when I can, but it's true that they say practice makes perfect.

(Oh, and don't believe 'perfect practice makes perfect'...If you wanted to be perfect, then you wouldn't be driven to be a sportswriter because you never are perfect—someone will always disagree with you. The trick is to not let the negativity get you down or stop you, and see if you can take something constructive from it. The best example I have is my AL East preview—it was really mostly opinion with some (what I thought solid) research mixed in. It wasn't received well (especially by Yankee fans), but instead of just stopping the preview after that one, check out how much better my AL Central preview is (in my opinion). Even if you aren't a baseball fan, that's the best example of research and "bouncing back after a tough article" I can give you.)

But I guess to sum everything up—because you have the passion, switching your major wouldn't be a mistake, and you can only learn and grow more as a writer if you do (especially if you enjoy it). And you're favorite community leader will try to be there with feedback and whatever else is necessary.

Ken, the Anaheim "Missing Piece" article was an excellent opinion piece—I'm personally a fan of when any of the writer's speak their mind here on Bleacher Report because those are always the most passionate pieces, and when passion is evident in one's writing it makes it believable (for lack of a better term).

You do a great job of painting a picture of painting both MacDonald and Weight (Although ever so slanted! haha) and what they bring to this team. The only things I would suggest are to space out your paragraphs (shorter paragraphs work better for reading in the online world) and just double checking capitals, punctuation, and word doubling (kind of like "the the" or something like that).

I can attest that spelling, punctuation, and grammar are a few things that become "back burner" material when you are passionate about a subject, as you just really want to have your voice heard (it was a tough lesson for me to learn!) but don't be afraid to go over your article after you've posted it, or even take a break before posting and go back and re-read it to ensure you're happy with the product (again...none of us are "exempt" from mistakes...hence why there are editors on this site!!).

As far as I'm concerned, you've got a good base/grounding and with a little more experience you'll definitely get the hang of it (afterall, if at first you don't succeed, try, try again!)

Hopefully we don't have to wait anothe two months before your next post!
