What's up guys, I am originally from the gulf coast of Florida. Home of old people, alligators, snakes and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Rays. I moved to Orlando, FL to attend college and from there it was off to San Diego, CA. I grew up a baseball fanatic, but growing up a baseball lover in Florida was tough considering we didn't get a baseball team until 1993. Since I can remember I have loved baseball. Living in Texas in my grade school ages, my parents took my 2 brothers and I on a journey to see our favorite baseball player, Nolan Ryan pitch. From what I can remember Ryan pitched a great game against the California Angels but did not get the decision. I recall him leaving the field with a standing ovation, though. That just goes to show his greatness. Anyway... I'm getting off on a tangent now.
From Texas we moved to Florida. One summer we drove to Pittsburgh, PA to attend my cousin's wedding. During the wedding rehersal, my parents needed to keep a couple of 9 and 10 year old's occupied, so my Uncle Buck took us to see Doug Drabek pitch against the San Diego Padres. The Pirates won that game and from then on I was hooked. I followed that good, not great Pirates through the 90's. After that I kind of lost interest with baseball and had many other things to focus on. ... Man, this is getting long. I hope no one reads this, I am going to have to shorten it.
Yeah, the Padres are in first place right now. But are they a contender or a pretender? Check out my Division Leader Contenders/Pretenders piece and see what you think.
