About

I'm writing a bio. Why am I writing a bio? Hm. Who would be interested in reading this? I suppose...people who read my articles. Okay, then...

Hi! I'm a dude who was raised in suburban America from the late 70's into the 21st century. I love college football, professional football, soccer football, and hockey footb--wait a minute, that doesn't make sense. I like to watch team sports. I like to play team sports. Sometimes, I like to write about team sports.

There is more to know about me, but I'm not sure how deep you want to get with your sports writers. I don't like long walks on the beach, I'll tell you that much. Ask me a question and I'll tell you no lies. I might, however, pull shenanigans. Shenaniganeous behavior is officially on the table.

Short List

  • Favorite Athletes

Favorite Current Athletes: Tim Tebow, Troy Polamalu, Christiano Ronaldo, Henrik Zetterberg, Ray Lewis, Charles Woodson, Gina Carano (which is only about 10% due to athletics), Pavel Datsyuk, Lebron James

  • Favorite Sports Teams

The University of Michigan, The Pittsburgh Steelers, The Detroit Pistons and Red Wings, Tottenham Hotspur

  • Favorite Coaches

Bo Schembechler, Scotty Bowman, Bill Cowher, Sir Alex Ferguson, Mike Tomlin

  • All-Time Sports Moment

Charles Woodson running a punt back for a touchdown against Ohio State in November of 1997. Although, I did have a great end zone view of Denard Robinson running for a touchdown in his debut as a starter against Connecticut. Both of those plays represent what I love most about college football, and I was at Michigan Stadium with my Dad for both.

  • Most Memorable Game Attended

November of 1997 -- Michigan vs. Ohio State (Michigan Stadium, Ann Arbor, MI)

  • Most Unbreakable Sports Record

I'd like to say "Most All-Time Wins in College Football -- Michigan has too big a headstart and too consistent a program to relinquish that record, despite occasional rough patches (like the 2008 season)." But...the real answer is probably something I'm much less interested in, like John Wooden's UCLA teams winning 7 national championships in a row, or some boring Olympic record.

  • Ruth or Mays?

I really don't like baseball. However, Babe Ruth hit a long-standing record amount of home runs while out of shape and sometimes inebriated. That's impressive in a way.

  • Unitas or Montana?

I always liked Joe Montana as a kid, but I think the adult me would have liked Unitas better.

  • Jordan or Russell?

Michael Jordan is the best basketball player of all time. No contest. Not Bill Russell, not Kobe Bryant, not Wilt Chamberlain, not even Lebron James (who's been the best in the world since the 2008 Olympics) -- NOBODY is better than Jordan.

  • Gretzky or Orr?

I like Gretzky's underrated versatility (very much like Michael Jordan), but I never really LIKED him very much. I vote for Steve Yzerman (just because).

  • Pele or Maradona?

I never watched soccer back then. I have no idea which of those guys is better. I can tell you that neither of them could do the things that Christiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi can do. All worthwhile sports progress and the players get better. Remembering former legends is okay, but I sometimes get bored with the past. However, the older Maradona as a coach reminds me of the "Most Interesting Man in the World" from those beer commercials, so that's awesome.

  • Federer or Sampras?

I hate both. I have no reason to believe that either is a bad guy. That being said, I really REALLY hate (a clean, sports kind of hate) both players. They are so good for so long that they bore me right out of watching the sport altogether. At least Pete Sampras is American. On the other hand, I'll never forgive him for robbing Andre Agassi of what could have been. Federer or Sampras? Neither. I don't care. How about changing the question to: "Venus or Serena?" I say Serena. I love her unparalleled power and athleticism.

  • Tiger or Nicklaus?

Tiger's the best of all time. He plays a different game from anyone else. Both players are great, but Tiger is in his own separate category (despite the weird turn he took recently).

  • Petty or Earnhardt?

Danica. Honestly, I don't care. I don't have a tremendous amount of reverence for NASCAR drivers. I know it isn't easy to do what they do, but isn't really that hard either. Rally racing or even Formula 1 requires so much more skill from the drivers...sorry NASCAR fans. No hard feelings, I hope. I just don't get it, I guess.

  • Schumacher or Senna?

Umm.....can I say Danica again? I don't really care about racing in general.

  • ACC, Big 12, Big East, Big Ten, Pac-12 or SEC?

All Time? Big Ten. Right Now? SEC. (This is, of course, weighted mostly toward football.) I'm a fourth-generation Michigan Man, so I'm understandably partial to the Big Ten, but the SEC as a whole conference has simply been playing better football than everyone else for the past few years. Looking at the bigger picture though, there are only 8 teams to top the 800 win mark, and half of them are in the Big Ten. Also, although the ACC is dominant in basketball, many regard the Big Ten as second best. Second best in football and basketball, and the hockey equivalent of the Big ten is BY FAR the best in that sport. If one is counting the three major college sports as a whole, the Big Ten stands alone.

@Ro Tide: You're right, we shouldn't have to apologize for fringe "fans" that make a bad name for us real supporters. But, I love the thought anyway.

There is ignorance that runs in all fan bases. I've read some comments and replies to you that just makes me shake my head, if you know what I mean. There are lots of bandwagon fans that have decided to root for my favorite team within the last couple of years and the lack of knowledge of sportsmanship is obvious. I've been an Alabama fan for over 30 years. I shouldn't, but I'm going to apologize for those that are simply ignorant. Sometimes it's best to just ignore them.
